Ive been playing it and can't understand why people seem to like it so much, I'm finding it very boring atm because there are no tutorials or anything like that, and you just seem to die in 1 shot and then have to wait 10 mins for the match to finish, no respawns or anything. :(

Because it's an extremely fun multiplayer game.

I find it very hard to believe that you are unable to find any tutorials/tips pages.

I mean an ingame tutorial on how to play the game, not having to go trawling the internet to find a walkthrough.

The key is in playing against or with people you know.

If you find the respawn issue a big factor then try to find servers with a deathmatch mod (you should respawn whenever you die), they're pretty good.

As for tutorials, there's easily enough on this forum.

Some quick pointers:
  • Keep your crosshair at head height at all times. Whenever you're going around a corner keep it there, so many people have to raise their crosshair because they're aiming at your feet. This will give you a big advantage straight off.

  • Buy armour (and helmet). You will die a lot more quickly if you don't. You should only get one shotted from a Deagle, AK or AWP.

  • If you have enough money buyarmour and the AK/Colt. They're popular for a reason, because they're simply the best in the game. If you have a little less you can try the FAMAS or Galil but they can be a waste of money if you're not used to them. If you fancy sniping then try the AWP but that's really too costly, wait until you're goodish with the AK/Colt.

  • Lower your sensitivity and turn off v-sync. A lower sense will increase the preciseness your aiming with, disabling v-sync will get rid of annoying game destroying mouse lag. I played for about a year before realising this and was pretty damn crap, then turned it off and it was a totally different story.

  • Learn when to pick and when to spray. The best is 2 shot bursts, if a little closer then 3 shots. Much closer and you should be spraying.

Hope that's helped a little. People feel free to correct me as I haven't played in a bit.

Its not hard...

Buy your kit

Kill

Kill

Kill

Maybe die.

Not really very hard. Source is rubbish. The original CS (back in the 1.3 days oh yes) was awesome :).

Trust me I was EXACTLY the same when I started.

Basically after a few weeks of playing on and off, maybe a month or so you actually know the layouts of the maps and develop "1337 skillz0rz" and whatnot. Takes quite a while to get into it, once you do you'll enjoy it :)

badly needs new maps should be called ddust2strike

or even a new mod all together that is one of the disappointing things for me about the source engine user created content is a lot lower than the hl1 engine

Like Zefan said, if you find a decent crowd to play with, it's much better.

If you're frustrated by the lack of respawns, try and find a CS Server running the Gungame mod :)

Great fun in the right atmosphere, LANParty with loads of people on the same server shouting across the room is funny, and using VOIP makes the game much better.
Didn't like it online.

1.6>source end of :p, coming from a experienced 1.6 background to source i found it incredibly easy  , think i dropped a 27-10 in my first game with my friends who's source team is going to CAL-I

Please would you explain your reasons for saying this? Don't get me wrong, I prefer 1.6 to Source, but would simply like to hear what your specific opinions are. If you mention Source hitboxes I will kill you. :p

Bit strong :p

Having played CSS and BF2 for me CSS is far better. I find BF2 clinical with no real interaction with the other players (maybe I have been on the wrong servers??)

With CSS I find that I spend more time laughing at the comments going the server than playing, there can be a real sense of Bonhomie .....perhaps that is why I die too much.

My real annoyance with CSS is that for many servers there is a download time with wav files etc when I just want to play!

i would rather be at the top than the bottom ;), i'm a competative person! i play to win, (lombardian ethic google gogogo :p) or i don't see any point in playing at all, don't get me wrong i can take loosing, i'm not a sore looser by any means but if i'm going to play something i'l play to win, probs due to me playing lots or sports and online games at high level! i'm not critising people who play for fun, but that's just me :)

Energize pop into 87.117.196.174:17015 its the MKDM server (webbie is www.mkdm.co.uk) and you can play on a map rotation which will give you a fair idea of the popular maps playing with various skilled and unskilled players. Also m8 each game is only 3mins long so you wont have to wait to long either ... :)

Its a very pure shooter, with a lot going for it.

Never got into it either tho. Its great when you're playing, but too much time is spent waiting to respawn.

It suffers from the same problems other multiplayer shooters have - its unbalanced, most of the maps are never used, a lot of cheating goes on, low ping players have a huge advantage, and noobs are treated like dirt.
