takes skill to kill 5 people running at you with an awp and pistol, rather that spray an M4 and hope the wild spraying bullets kills some baddies. Theres 2 ways to play the awp, sit back and wait zoomed on a tiny gap and use your reactions, or go on the offensive, usually meaning lots of jump shots and no scopes :P

Also one of the most important things to staying alive with an AWP is to be good with pistols!
 
awp for long range deagle for support cant beat it. most maps ar suited for it.

and if you learned awp flick shot and etc should be no problem killing anyone
 
I don't use the AWP myself but to use it effectively requires an immense amount of skill. Any idiot can use it and get a few kills but it takes a lot of skill to use it at any sort of level.

lol at the state of 99% of source players. Years after release, and you're still all clueless.
 
The ones who whine & moan are generally the ones who cant use it for **** and dont like being killed by it all the time. After watching the CGS you tell me that someone like Rattlesnk isnt extremely talented with the awp esp in close combat which its hardest to use.

I used to love my shotgun (not the auto one) and deagle combo back when I played this game many moons ago. Admitedly it didn't work on bigger maps so when I needed range I usually opted for M4 (yeah CT whore). Loved the scout on Aztec too.
 
If you want to learn to awp, learn to deagle first.

Also watch vids/matchs and see how the pros do it, they are pretty damn fast :) But generally its all timing and "knowing" where the guys head will be. Learn where choke points etc are and good cover for yourself. Only zoom when you shoot, others wise keep covering your self, else someone WILL pop round that corner that you cant see and kill you.

Dont stay static, and dont play too hard :)


also deathmatch is the way forward, if your wrist starts to hurt your playing properly! Try and get into a clan or something too, the things you will learn from other team members is invaluable. Saying that there are hardly any 16man well admin-ed clan servers anymore :(

a good map for getting used to sniping guns is de_dust2, as CT's load up a local game filled with bots (turn shotguns off because somehow the bots are amazing with them) a p228 or usp is a good 2nd weapon when using awp
 
Aim is paramount. I burst AK and M4, and play defensive with the AWP when i need to.

You, my uneducated friend, are one of the clueless morons that I mentioned in previous post. Sure, cracking a few heads with an AWP in public takes no skill. Just like public takes no skill, which I imagine is the extent of your CS experience.

Anyone can use an AWP, but it takes a great deal of skill and experience to master. The difference between a skilled and novice user is huge, far more so than the gap between a skilled/novice colt/ak user.
 
Might want to keep that attitude in check he had a perfectly valid point there it is extremely easy to use especially while you're covering choke points. Sure it requires great skill to master just like any other weapon and I'm sure there's a great gap between different users but it is possibly one of the easiest weapons to use in game to get kills (as long as the user isn't stupid enough to try and CQB with it).
 
AWPs quite possibly require more skill to be brilliant at than the M4/AK, because, if you're playing against decent players, you may not get a chance at a second shot. With the automatics you can burst, strafe away a bit, burst some more, strafe, etc, and keep yourself alive for a good few seconds, even if you barely hit a thing. With the AWP, you miss a shot, and suddenly you're lumbered with a rifle that takes forever between shots, or a pistol that's largely rubbish over long distance, regardless of what it is.

If AWPs required no skill, I'd be able to kill with one. But despite being decent with an AK or M4 (fav gun, unsilenced), I'm atrocious with an AWP. :o
