Just looking for some information on the current shape Honda Civic with the 1.8 i-VTEC engine.

Can anyone give me real world MPG, servicing costs, if there's anything I should look out for when I go to test drive one tomorrow.

Thanks

Buying used, but thanks anyway :)

From the Civinfo.com Wiki:

- What fuel economy should I expect?
- Service Cost
- New car checklist

You can find everything about the current generation Honda Civic on Civinfo.com :)

That is perfect! Thanks very much

My dad has a 1.8 one. He says he can achieve 50mpg quite easily from it.

Are you sure? That seems very high?

Also, has anyone ever bought from Car Giant? (I'm asking because loads of people seem to consider car supermarkets a load of rubbish) Seen this and it seems a very good price :)

My brother's 1.8 i.shift gets around 42mpg. Driven calmly at 55-60 it can get to 50mpg.

A family member had one and I've driven it for a fair few miles, real world MPG is around 38-42 or so.

Servicing costs are reasonable, a lot of owners seem to go through brake discs and pads quite quickly though.

It's a nice enough car to drive, comfy seats, modern interior and it is surprisingly good fun if you need to make progress..

Try and get one with the panoramic roof, brightens up the interior nicely.

Any more questions feel free to ask!

What a lot of money to spend on such an ordinary car.

Surely that is a far better buy?

Even something like a Volkswagen of the same age and lower mileage is cheaper!

Or perhaps a 1 year new, 200bhp, turbo Jetta for.. less money..

Even a Golf isnt any more money..

Seriously, for the money, the Civic is junk, you can do better either by buying someething just as ordinary for thousands less, or buying something better for the same money.

For the money? Absolutely. For a start it's better built, the Civic feels very cheap and nasty inside. It's like sitting in in one of those really flashy JVC stereos.

I think you get quite a lot for your money with a civic - it has sat nav, cruise control, auto lights/wipers, dual zone climate control and an awesome interior. That model is more comparable to a Golf GT.

An awesome interior?

I think you need to go and drive one. The interior looks awesome in pictures, then you discover it's been thrown together by a small monkey using the sort of plastics you'd expect to find on a Sainsburys disposable toaster.

It's all style and no substance.

I have driven one, I went down to my local Honda dealer and test drove a nearly new one to see if I liked it before I went all the way down to car giant to try that one.

I was really impressed, I thought it was very well made and that the interior was logically laid out.

The one I drove had 2000 miles on the clock and rattled more than a car transporter full of 206's. It just wasn't a quality product, at all.

If you want something fun buy something fun, if you want something normal for daily use buy a Focus, or a Jetta (I've suddenly decided these are bargainous) or something.

Geesh you never stop do you.

Guy asks about a car, and you throw a load of crap about other cars, which are rubbish from what you linked.

The way your talking about the interior of a VW you'd think it was a Roller.

Mate of mine has a Type S with the R bodykit etc, and it's a nice place to be inside. Gonna be a hell of a lot nicer to drive than a bloody jetta.

Drop the personal insults, they're not needed.

The one I drove didn't rattle, that had about 5000 miles on the clock. I have read a few reviews of people complaining about rattling though but the car I drove seemed fine.

I'm not keen on the pre-facelift focus, the front is just so dull ad I can't insure that 200bhp Jetta
