Curved is here....

It's much easier to make a tablet in terms of thermal package, motherboard design, component size and batter density etc.

I wouldn't think the design costs would be significantly different between tablet / phone & the lack of phone hardware / licence cost for the tablet should be a reasonable saving

* we were once charged a £1 million licence fee to use a GSM stack in our data modems :(

Curved screens is a great technology, and the possibilities of it could be amazing, but just not yet.

Imagine a phone where the screen curves around the back of the phone, and you could un-clip it to make a tablet sized screen for your media, with no seams on the display. Having a slight curve in the display won't do anything though.

Im imagining a galaxy note device using this curved tech in the future

Both are silly gimmicks. Now give us a proper phone which uses a flexiable display, rather than a gimmick purly to be first to market.

At least LGs has a better explanation allthough its still rubbish.

The curve is designed to ergonomically fit around the user's face as they use the smartphone.

Why would I put a phone near my face ?

Ah I forgot.. Some people actually call using their phones! You know who you are!

For all the people having a moan about the curved screens, im pretty sure once they are out to buy, majority of you whingers will get one anyways:D

I think the tech is interesting to say the least, id rather have one of those fancy flexible type of screens ie a phone that you can fold up, put in your pocket then un fold it and voila off you go.

Come on name a benefit. They're a terrible idea, for first to market purposes.

Second part absolutly agree with, but that is not wither of these phones.

The screens however is great tech with huge potential, for several reasons. These curved phones however are not.

And lol at people comparing them to curved cinema screens, that has a reason, curved that close to your eye does not have the same reason, it doesn't even follow the formula for that benefit.

Only use I'd have for a flexible (let alone curved) screen would be like the image above where you could unfold something galaxy note 1 phone sized out to something closer to a tablet.

The only point I can see myself is that I'm wondering whether the curved screen would match where your thumb rests as you move it left to right as it's going to extend slightly further when it's pointing straight out than when it's pointing towards the edges of the screen. Hard to say without trying one.

Curved like the samsung would sit more comfortably in my pocket (curve inverted over my thigh), unlike how my S2 sticks out at the sides.

That withstanding, I see no point.
