*** Cyberpunk 2077 ***

Not surprising - also adding RT so late in the development cycle isn't helpful with such an expansive game. So not only will they need to test and optimise the existing version, can you imagine them having to do the same with the RTX version too?? Then optimise the game for a brand new set of GPUs launched a month before the November release date. They really should have concentrated on releasing the "base" version, and added RT support later on. It was the same thing with W3,they plonked in new features mere months before launch and worked their devs to the bone! :(

So many entitled little ***** on Twitter crying over this, "oh no i booked time off work to play it" imagine having time off to play a video game.
Don't worry about the countless hours the devs are putting into this game to bring it to you, while you sit there scratching your balls.

Probably the same people who would cry if it was released early with bugs. Seems the gaming community has a lot of these crybabies nowadays.

Indeed.

Totally agree with you over the entitled **** heads moaning about taking time off and "but you said wwhhaaaa waaaaaa whaaaaaa" Those poor devs are the ones I really worry about. CDPR do have this halo by some in the community but as saintly as some would have us believe they are, we all know that the game's crunch will now extend out even further.
They should have pushed it to 2021 and let them (hate buzz words but seems to fit this scenario) decompress. The world is getting even more messed up and Poland is being hit very hard. However, seeing how rabid the community is at the moment, they would never dare do it for the risk of death threats n all... what? really! Oh, FFS there have been death threats....
This just highlights to the world what a Toxic and entitled world the gaming community is on the underbelly...

Better to get the death threats out of the way now than on release when people find out that there are only 22 drivable vehicles, not the 24 which the leaks and fan rumours suggested

As a chef for over 16 years I feel the hours. But mine was 18 hours a day for a few months with no breaks, no sitting down and no overtime pay. Salary pay in catering sucks.

I do feel for the devs of its true.

I've survived 2 suicide attempts because of the stress, alcohol, drug and gambling problems.

If any devs are reading this and need to talk, pm me and ill happily have a brew waiting <3

The CDPR management and PR are partly to blame for this too. They not only were on Twitter telling people it was fine to book days off,as it was definitely being released on that date, they kept shoehorning features into the game at the last minute. They did exactly the same with the Witcher 3 and seemingly don't really care if their own workers had to work excessive hours.

I dont get the faux concern over staff.

If anyone really cares so much about the devs being 'forced' to work longer, and CDPR's bad practices, dont buy the game? Because you are just supporting them if you do.

Are they not being paid for these extra hours? Anyone who has a serious job, has had to work extra hours at some point in their career. Especially when it involves project deadlines. If the staff are so unhappy, they could always get another job?

It sucks the games delayed, but Id rather it comes out in a more 'finished' state, than being plagued with bugs and a poor release.

Everyone knows the real reason - its the incorporation and optimisation of RTX features in the game especially for Ampere GPUs.

With the Witcher 3,remember it was delayed for "further optimisations" and everyone on forums said it was those blooming consoles. Yet in those few months you saw a whole lot of Gameworks features added for Maxwell GPUs as Nvidia sponsored it.

Nvidia is sponsoring this game too,and it seems all these delays conveniently allow for the whole Ampere stack from the RTX3090 to the RTX3060 to be released(the RTX3060 is late next month).

It could be the consoles, but CDPR is on record saying the current version for consoles is for the previous generation, and it will be an enhanced version of that for the new consoles. The "next generation" version, which I assume means the version with RT will be out next year, and apparently RDNA2 RT support won't be there at launch too.

No the RT version on PC is from day 1, that's the whole point of the generational challenges they now face. The PC version is the out of the box superior version with next gen features, the console version will later be released as a free enhanced version like they have said. RDNA2 will be added at a later date because there is no AMD hardware currently to develop for and won't be for a while yet. The inclusion of RTX out the box isn't new, RTX has been around a couple of years already and the architecture isn't different between RTX 20 and 30 series cards in how they do RT either. The game also uses DLSS2.0 which is fully supported on both gens of nVidia cards. The 30 series just has more power and speed naturally.

The real cause of this delay is almost certainly console certification whether Microsoft end or Sony is unknown but everything does seem to point that direction.

RT is available at launch on only Nvidia GPUs:

Ray tracing will only be available on PCs with GeForce graphics cards or via GeForce NOW at launch, though we expect that it'll be eventually compatible with AMD's new Navi graphics cards as well as being featured on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X once the proper enhancement updates drop for the next-gen consoles in 2021.

The focus is on the Gameworks PC version of the game. The console version with RT is next year.Even CDPR confirmed this:

https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/cyberpunks-ps5-xbox-series-x-2021/

“The next-gen version is planned for the next year and the plans are still in place – we’ve never revealed specific dates, but it’s planned for the next year, so the delay doesn’t change much in this regard,” CD Projekt president Adam Kiciński told investors on Thursday.

That was in June about the November delay. They said the delay was not to do with it.The Witcher 3 last delay was purported to be for consoles, but in those months CDPR incorporated new Gameworks features not seen in earlier builds, and despite this there were issues.

RDNA2 dev kits for the consoles have been around for a while:
https://wccftech.com/playstation-5-devkit-leaked-image-confirms-previous-patent-design/

The old consoles have been around for a while too,so they had tons of time to test on those. Ampere has significant changes compared to Turing too(the CUDA cores work somewhat differently),hence why certain aspects of performance are disappointing because no dev has fully optimised for it yet.

The only big change was RTX being added last year which is very late in the dev cycle, and yet we only saw some of the features a few months ago. Remember the game was meant to be launched in April,so the original timeline for the RTX inclusion was less than 10 months.

The fact its taken over 12 months just to see some features means its definitely down to problems in RTX being incorporated and I suspect its performance related.I remember people complaining the RT effects shown in the game were minimal, which to me says they hadn't been fully integrated yet and that was months ago. So expect to see more RT effects IMHO in the launch versions.

Integration of new graphics features,QA/QC testing of those features and performance optimisation will take a very long time with what is happening now.

These are the very things which will get delayed the most by something such as Covid, because it requires tons of play testing and feedback to various programmers and engineers. Not only RTX but also DLSS needs to be added into the game, and the CDPR Red engine needs to have changes to accomodate these new additions - so its not only game level, but engine level. It also requires sufficient quantities of the new Ampere GPUs to optimise and test for performance - so how long do people think it will take CDPR to play test on Ampere GPUs which only released last month?? Basically tons of people, and the very sort of thing Covid would cause delays to. Also how convenient the game is now delayed just after Nvidia will have launched the mainstream RTX3060 and RTX3060TI. That means CDPR will have time to playtest the game on those cards too.

Adding new graphical features to the game extremely late in the dev cycle, and having so many people now remotely working due to Covid has just made things far worse IMHO.CDPR is on historical form for doing this too(feature creep),especially if you read statements from ex-employees IIRC. This is why they have a very bad crunch culture in the company. Now if the consoles do have RT at launch, then I would agree they might be a reason for the delay if its being suddenly added at the last minute, but I doubt it would explain the huge delay the game has already had. Anyway,I will leave it at that! :)

But any of those things being flaky would not have allowed the game to go gold at the dev level. The fact that it went gold meant it was fully complete as a game and the final stage is certification for each platform. Since the console platforms tend to get certified last it seems, this kind of adds up. It's more likely that the game runs poorly on the base level PS4/Xbox and as such didn't pass certification.

Can't see any other reason why it would go gold, only to then be pulled?
