*** Cyberpunk 2077 ***

Never liked the bike handling either personally - though good in that you could zip through traffic. I ended up mostly nabbing one of the armoured SUVs to get around when I could - shame you couldn't purchase one and/or later just using double jump/sprint combo to get around quickly.

Did you find the extra speed very useful? You never need to escape anything. You never need to drive/ride anywhere in a limited amount of time.

Well, I've done everything there is to do in the game so now I just enjoy zipping around Night City at ludicrous speed :D

I found bikes so much better, especially in the city and offroad

Yep - certainly with a joypad anyway - can't imagine playing CP with a mouse and keyboard - anyone prefer it that way?

There's a mod for that. Probably several. Even with the very restricted modding in CP2077, modders still manage to fix the stuff that should never have been a problem in the first place.

Last I checked, that mod cause the map to flicker according to the FAQ? I'm sure the mods will be great given time though.

Yes. Me, for example. The only type of game I prefer a pad for is racing games and I rarely use a pad even for those. I've already done plenty of damage to my right thumb by using a pad extensively a couple of years ago for a racing game. It took months to heal and still gives me some pain sometimes. Pads are inherently badly suited to human physiology because of the excessive strain they put on thumbs, especially the dominant thumb. I was OK with it when I was ~20 and often gaming on a Megadrive, but it's right out now that I'm in my 50s.

I don't know. I never used it because I found the default minimap tolerable once I'd found the usable method of bike handling and navigation I referred to. I spent a lot of the early game in my first playthrough running everywhere in a futile attempt to train my athletics skill, so I hardly used vehicles before I developed that method. Outside the city, I usually ignored the minimap and the roads and just rode directly to wherever I was going. Offroading on a motorbike in CP2077 is even more hilariously unrealistic than riding it on the roads.

Guys, what would you upgrade to from a 4790k? My 2070S isn't even fully utilised in this game because the CPU bottlenecks it like hell and it's only going to get worse with new releases so I'm looking into my options after being out of the loop for 7 years, lol.

GPU will have to wait as the prices are ridiculous, I'm so glad I sold my 1070 sometime before the pandemic and found a great deal on a 2070S, cheapest upgrade I've ever made.

Are you sure the CPU is a bottleneck?

Yes, quadcore bottlenecks extremely in Cyberpunk and few other open world games.

Hard to advise when you don't mention a budget. Personally I am considering upgrading from my Ryzen 2700X to Ryzen 5800X or 5900X if I decide to splurge. It helps that my motherboard can host these processors after a BIOS update. You would have to get a new MOBO though (that applies to both intel and amd CPUs in your case).

Yeah, I know about the mobo and RAM. Didn't mention a budget because I'm not sure yet. Just asking what would be a sensible upgrade from what's currently out, I can get a 5800X if need be but if a cheaper 6-core CPU does the trick for a couple of years, then I won't bother. I can stay with Intel or go AMD, doesn't matter, just looking for the best bang for buck.

I use my PC for music as well so a higher core count might be useful.

As I had just finished Contracts 11 I decided to buy this, please tell me that it is not always this slow, I have just got my first cyberwaer upgrade and am meeting with Dex but jeez can you ever just get on and do stuff without all the dialogue?

I'd get 8 core minimum if only because new consoles also have 8 cores and developers will likely utilize those. 5600X is great today, but I'd want the upgrade to last entire gen, so 5800X seems like best minimum choice.

I mean, it IS and RPG and dialogue is a huge part of the genre. For me, the dialogue is often more enjoyable than action.
But yes, once you get into the open world through the prologue, you will be able to explore and just do missions, many of which are combat/stealth focused.

Hard to say.

On the one hand, dialogue is a key part of any game with a story and characters. The main part, really. So it depends on how little story and characterisation you want in a game. If you're after none or very little of both, you may as well stop playing CP2077 now because it has a moderate amount of story and characterisation.

On the other hand, it might be that what you're finding unappealing isn't the dialogue per se but the limited interactivity. If that's the case, then you'll probably find it worth continuing because the game becomes a lot more open after you finish the mission to steal the biochip from Arasaka ("The Heist"). You're currently still in the tutorial/prologue/stage-setting part of the game. The game doesn't tell you that, but it should.

OK, I am at the Heist bit trying to figure out all this scanning stuff. Will give it a bit longer and then decide.
I don't mind a bit of dialogue but there seems to be loads and loads of it.

Once the heist is over you're no longer rail-roaded along the main story path and can play around with the side gigs (still fun, though less story-intensive).

I like the dialogue as it adds to the character, my beef is when on a mission and I want to sneak so press C and skip a load of dialogue by mistake. The key bindings annoy me but obviously not enough that I try to change them!
