*** Cyberpunk 2077 ***

I agree with the graphics point, it looks plasticy and blurry to hell. But that could be Nvidia forcing them to use the horrible DLSS which just blurs up the picture.

As for the world, I'm sure it will be vast and amazing, let's not forget, they made the surrounding area of kaer morhen liteally just a walking zone to enjoy the land. Barely anything in it, no real purpose, just to add to the world. They could have easily gone with just the castle for the cutscenes and dialogue. But they wanted the player to at least venture out into the lands where Geralt grew up.

I've faith in CDPR, they are the good guys, I think the pressure is getting to them a little as this is easily going to be one of the biggest releases this decade. And as a result, they are under the biggest spotlight right now.

I feel like this game is getting to HalfLife 3 levels of hype so i bet these guys are on pins wanting to make the best game they can. I think they will do it, it wont please everyone and im not expecting 'best game ever made' but i think it will be a great game and well worth a punt!

Shame it's strictly first person now. Kind of renders the character creation pointless. I'm worried it's straying too far away from an rpg, not that I really expected it to be a proper rpg anyway tbh. You will barely ever see your character and from gameplay I've seen you don't really choose the dialogue they say either.

Do you think Commander Shepard would be such an iconic character if you couldn't see him/her?

Since when was seeing your character an integral part of playing an RPG?

It's literally my favourite genre and I can honestly take or leave that aspect of any game.

Shepard was iconic because of the story that was told and his involvement in it, seeing his face on the screen from time to time didn't matter one bit to me, and calling Mass Effect an RPG series is a difficult sell for me anyway despite how much I enjoyed the first two games.

I didn't say it was. It can certainly be an important aspect of role-playing though. They've given us a character creation tool to let us create the character we want to role play as. Now we will barely see them. We won't see the armour we choose to wear etc.

and calling Mass Effect an RPG series is a difficult sell for me.

And for me as well, as I've said on here many times...I never called it an RPG series! I was purely commenting on the character. Would Geralt be so popular if he was just a floating gruff voice and you didn't see him reacting and interacting with other characters in cutscenes.

It hasn't dampened my expectations for the game, I'm sure it will be awesome.

I like how that one twitter post as quoted above by @Pighardia is starting to blend thoughts of comparison between Mass Effect and CP2077, it's a crazy community we exist in.

Mass effect started out as a quite stats heavy RPG but with each iteration it moved more towards an action RPG and eventually a cover shooter with some RPG elements.

The first game was absolutely rpg-centric, the second was less so but absolutely nailed the social interaction aspect I'd expect in a more cinematic game, the third was a full blown cover shooter.

I absolutely agree that the series began as an RPG, but it was stepping away from that in the second game and absolutely was not in the third. I find it difficult to call the Mass Effect trilogy a "RPG" series as it just isn't.

...I like to pretend Andromeda never happened, I really didn't like ME3 but my lord did Andromeda make it look more appealing.

Missed this before, alert system be damned!

Honestly I do agree with you in that regard, I loved ME 1 + 2 and adored The Witcher games, but they offer a more cinematic experience. I'm not sure that Cyberpunk is aiming for that, from what I've seen it's a game focused on making "you" the character, for better or worse.

I think there's room for both styles, the cinematic (Geralt in Witcher, Shepard in ME) and the faceless/voiceless guy you inject yourself into in the style of say... Fallout: New Vegas?

I do agree, I look forward to seeing more from the developers and I'm looking forward to the game, be what may.

.

Personally, I really hate the new "paraphrasing" fad in games. Where you choose something similar to what your character says and then he/she says something different! I'd take a voiceless protagonist any day of the week... If you read the dialogue option you don't need to hear the character say it too!
There is certainly room for the more cinematic approach too and I enjoy that just as much sometimes.

I get what you're saying, I've played a few games where you think you're saying something only to have your character go somewhere totally different.

That said, Obsidian released a game a good few years back I found incredibly enjoyable called Alpha Protocol. It was buggy and somewhat panned on release, but if you put the effort into it, it was a hell of a lot of fun in my opinion.

Such a sad thing that was. I wanted to see more rpg for ME2, but they catered for mass appeal instead. Mass Effect to me is like the Matrix, where the sequels just do not compare to the originals.

I really think they will do a great job for Cyberpunk 2077. Even if it did not live up to the hype, it will still be better than most games for me I recon.

Mass Effect 1 is for me the greatest RPG I've ever played followed closely by Dragon Age Origin. Bioware at its RPG best right there, then EA got involved and flushed the studio down the crapper.

I'm not sure what to make of CP2077 at the moment, it could go either way, but I'm more worried the game will not live up to the incredible hype. We've already started to see the inevitable downgrade.

I agree, ME1 is the best story driven game I've ever played.
