Cyberpunk 2077

The game has major issues on current gen consoles too. It’s not just last gen performance that’s the issue but it seems to be the focus.

Well for one when you look at other comparable games I don’t see why quality mode isn’t locked to 60 rather than 30fps, the hardware is there, it just needs to be utilised/optimised. It’s just all so lazy. At least we’ll get there eventually once the optimised patch drops.

The worst part is according to Sony TOS you cant get a refund once you start downloading the game.

The developer has now literally admitted the game is not fit for purpose and it needs at least three months worth of patches to make it playable at an acceptable level. Sony cannot legally refuse a refund now.

There needs to be laws introduced. Companies just take more and more liberties. Especially in the dawn of the internet where games don't really need to be finished anymore.

If reviewers had done their jobs people would have been able to cancel pre-orders or at the very least swap to the PC version.

The worst part for me is the way they were able to manipulate reviews, it's a great example of how lacking modern day journalism is.

Poor performance = oh that's just a buggy DRM software we added it will be fixed at launched, don't post any benchmarks because of it.
Bugs galore = we will fix it all in a day one patch just ignore them and rate the game as if they don't exist.
Console versions = they run surprisingly good but you don't need to see them to be able to review them, trust us.

....oh yeah and as a condition of being able to review the game you aren't allowed to post any of your own footage, we wouldn't want you to hurt us financially by showing customers the actual product now would we?

It's got to breach some kind of fraud or false advertising law surely? right up until launch people were lead to believe that they were buying the product they had imagined it to be on the back of many downright false statements made during development, rather than the one that actually existed.

This is the fault of CDPR by not sending out review codes for consoles prior to release. They only supplied PC codes and there was a caveat that you had to play on a 3080 or above I believe so it looked and ran okay.

That's never stopped them before.

Can't blame the reviewers. CDPR purposely withheld console versions so nobody could play it early AND they also lied about the state of the console versions AND lied to Sony and MS that the game would be updated at launch so it ran fine.

but like I said before reviewers are essentially gaming journalists, they should have been questioning why those versions were not available to them and why they were being given a list of rules to abide by during their own (supposedly independent) review process. They should refuse to review a product if they think they are being prevented from doing their jobs properly and explain to the public why.

What they should have done (as journalists) is put out statements that they are refusing to review it due to lack of console versions and all of the other unreasonable demands being placed on them and perhaps even questioned why that was being done, they instead allowed the game publisher to manage their own review process which has now blown up in their own faces and shown them to be incompetent at best, bought and paid for mouthpieces at worst.

CDPR have definitely been dishonest and deceptive but most of the reviewers went along with it and gave glowing reviews instead of calling them out.

I wonder if all these not so glowing reviews will get the next gen patch pushed out quicker ?

There is highlights of an investor meeting posted on reddit, the devs seem to be telling investors their solution to last gen performance is to give customers a free upgrade to next gen version, so basically they want hardware to bail them out. Also in same meeting devs told investors, there wont be any visual or gameplay changes, just fixes enough so game can be played without crashing.

Reviewers just want to get their review out asap for the clicks, if that means bypassing proper due process then so be it, also a reviewer I knew told me, if he thinks a game is bad he will out of moral reasons refuse to review it, when I asked him why not review it with a bad rating, he said that is suicide in the gaming industry, take that as how you want to interpret it. He basically told me treat a lack of review as a bad review.

Unfortunately the game is so broken I just can’t see the next gen patch dropping until at least the end of next year. There’s just too much to work on.

I’ve enjoyed what I’ve played so far, even though there are clear issues and it’s frustrating it isn’t using the capabilities of the X - that said, it looks impressive even without the enhancements.

I've taken a number of screenshots after the most recent patch. I'm running the game in performance mode on the Series X:

More to follow.

So i have this on my Christmas list from the missus, i'm sure i read that it isn't optimised for series s|x yet. When are we likely to see it and will it be a free upgrade?
