Cyclists on pavements, do police really care?

I've seen at least two cases within the last week where a cyclist is on the pavement, and a police car completely ignores them. Maybe if someone is an officer they can shed some light.

Down here in Brighton we see this a lot and police don't seem to care.

We also see people on the road who shouldn't be. People on rollerskates and skateboards quite a lot. My favourite though are people on mobility scooters who ride in the middle of the road and then go onto the pavement at full speed. (Some of them have licence plates but the majority don't )

I pretty much go everywhere on my Push bike and always go on the Pavement,The way they drive around here and how the streets are laid out,Plus people parking where they shouldnt makes it very dangerous for us to be on the road.

I actually got stopped by the police a couple of weeks back on my way to work at 2:30 am..they asked what i was doing out that time of the morning and of course theyre just doing their job..i explained i was going to work and he said okay mate..said nothing about my riding on the pavement,And to be honest i couldn't give a monkeys left nut if they did..fine me i don't care,My safety is more important.

And what George said is right,You get blasted and abuse when you cycle in the middle of the road which were fully entitled to do..now people moan about us using the pavement?.. :D

They probably definitely have better things to be doing.

Don't you mean easier things?

like this:

It's simply a lot easier picking on homeless people and little girls.

Reminds me of when I was at secondary school. I'm sure every girl who owned a bike complained of being targeted by a copper for riding on the pavement, but all the gangster-wannabe boys never-ever had any problems whatsoever.

The vast majority of people, if not everybody, naturally want to make their jobs as easy as possible. In some roles it doesn't affect anyone, but in some roles it takes the ****.

A police officer once stopped me on his way past while I was riding my bicycle on a pavement. In a shared use area... between a toucan crossing on one side and an arrow telling cyclists to move on to the pavement on the other. He also pointed to a no cycling sign (a bicycle in a red circle) and told me I should be cycling over there... Wouldn't listen to a word I was telling him to say he was wrong, not charged with anything of course.

(specifically on this section here:

I complained to the local police and he was re-educated...

The thing is it can potentially affect someone, and potentially very seriously.

Like this for example:

The "why aren't you catching real criminals" line only really works for weed smokers, which in itself really has no effect on anyone.

That guy was an idiot,Look how fast he was going..i cycle on the pavement but only a tad faster that what you would consider normal walking speed.

I was cycling on the pavement once at 11:45PM with lights and a traffic unit pulled into the junction in front of me and waited. Asked me not to cycle on the pavement (just 20 yards was left). It was a dead residential area apart from cars flying by well over the speed limit. I hadn't felt safe on the road but the officer insisted.
