Cyclists two abreast on busy 'A' road, selfish?

well done.
move to surrey then you'll eat your words :D

Have you ever been down Westerham way? On a Sunday it's absolutely insane. They will ride in shoals down the road as if they own it, not only is it silly it's flipping dangerous on those roads.

Fair enough it's a Sunday so it's not like most people are in a hurry to be anywhere, but it still beggars belief.

Where have you lot been???

Don't you know its a cyclists DUTY to be as inconsiderate and ignorant of the highway code as possible and to moan the loudest about there not being separate roads for cyclist wherever they wish to go..

This is a modern evil road users are going to have to get used to and accept unfortunately....

Ooh, see what I did there XMarkie?

That's all well and good and whatnot, but why is it every time I go into a public car park it's full of oblivious morons who just moments previous were in a car?

People are retarded. As soon as they get out of a car, they are no longer motorists they are pedestrians.
I've noticed this phenomenon too, they've just driven into the car park and now they're milling around in the middle of the road like it's a ****** footpath.

Let's close the thread before I cry.

Be a man and don't click on it.
Go on, I double, no, treble doffer you not to click on the thread and contribute.

:o Nice one, the essence of "being a man" is ignoring threads on internet forums. I've ignored plenty before which pretty much makes me Tom Selleck by my reckoning.

I'll leave you all to continue frothing at the mouth and wasting your time.

I love that your definition of the ultimate man is Tom Selleck. It's the 'tache, isn't it? :D:D

You just couldn't do it could you?
You Russell Brand you.

I would have gone for George Clooney or Sean Connery not bloody Tom Selleck.

That surprises me, it happens when two cyclists are two abreast whilst the opposite carriageway is busy, a queue readily builds up.

in that situation where the other side of the road is busy you shouldn't be overtaking the cyclists if they're riding single file anyway. Highway code rule 163 "give motorcyclists, cyclists and horse riders at least as much room as you would when overtaking a car"

It can be done within your own lane on wider busy A roads, anyway we all know that is stupidly impractical and pretty much no one does that so that the traffic flow is not affected adversely. It's reasonable.

I find myself infuriated by car drivers more than I ever do cyclists, I'm never held up by a cyclist for more than a few seconds, and as for abreast cyclists (especially on country roads) never annoy me, I'd rather they be two abreast than scattered single-file over a long stretch making it impossible/not safe to overtake.

It's also a lot safer for them (and as a direct result me) because certain angles can be misleading and a cyclist can make his companion infront when single-file completely invisible.

If the opposite side of the carriageway is busy with a line of cars you should not overtake a cyclist....

If a cyclist could put their arm out and touch your car when overtaking that means you're going too close and doing it wrong.

One thing I notice more and more these days are cars and motorcycles stopping in the green advanced stopping line, and then get annoyed when you stop ahead of the green box and get in front of them.

You keep saying the highway code says this and says that yet the only reference I can find in the highway code which mentions cycling two abreast is basically saying don't do it unless you're on a very quiet A/B road with little to no other traffic.
It's quite possible I'm blind and cannot read so if you'd like to prove me wrong I'll happily keep quiet :)

That's your very biased interpretation. I don't read it like that.

"never ride more than two abreast, and ride in single file on narrow or busy roads and when riding round bends"

To me that suggests you should only be two abreast on quieter roads with less other traffic.

One thing I would like to see more of a crackdown on is what seems to be an ever increasing number of cyclists on the road with no lights, no helmets, no hi-viz etc.

Whilst I find cyclists to be a mild irritation on the roads in general, much like anything else travelling slower than I am/could be, the ones that really wind me up are the ninjas who seem to think dressing in black and cycling around with no lights in the dead of night is a clever thing to do.
