Cyclists

It would take me an EXTRA 45 mins to cycle to work from where I live. :(
Along with that and the crappy weather it's the only reason I don't cycle

Argh cyclists make me rage so bad.

  • Wait for an opportunity to overtake.
  • Overtake.
  • Get caught in traffic/lights
  • Cyclist filters through.
  • Wait for another opportunity to overtake.

The cycle goes on and on. Why don't you just **** off

I do this but will probably end up to far for you to overtake me again :D and cycle lanes are a joke what's the point of having lanes for 50m at a time.
I wouldn't overtake trucks or buses since I would think it would be more difficult for them to overtake me and will probably annoy them a lot to overtake me all the time, unless there is a long queue. And **** buses what's the point overtaking me for them to stop 30m ahead because they have to let off passengers just stay the **** behind me.
But cars I would overtake them any day all the time, on big roundabouts I will take up a whole lane if I feel unsafe.

I feel naughty for posting this haha. In no way do I condone this but yeah there is a culture for it.

I think the main problem is that the concerns of each group can be prioritised as such:

Motorists:

  • Time
  • Money

Cyclists

  • I don't want to die.

I just wish the brain dead motorists (not all I know) would realise how vulnerable cyclists are and give them enough space\consideration. Frankly, if one of my cycling compatriots runs a red and gets HIMSELF killed, fine. One less cretin on the road. I just don't want a cretin in a 1 tonne metal box killing me.

Look out! I love the bit where there is almost a head on collision with the fuxx!

Indeed

I like cycling, and I only ever cycle on reasonably quiet roads...Main roads are just ridiculous, God knows how people cycle in London etc

I don't normally have issues when I do cycle on the road, occasionally someone will cut in too early, other than that not much has happened.

In my car, I give most people enough room when they cycle...However sometimes cyclists do take up too much room, ie two cyclists wide, however half the time i don't mind as long as its not some windy tight country or in the middle of a busy town. But again, if they are cycling up a hill, they will take up slightly more space than usual due to actually having to push up the hill...However I wouldn't expect the average car driver to understand this having not cycled since they past their driving test :p

I think London road users are a law to their own to be honest, just by the true nature of busy traffic flow. I guess there's a fine line between confidence and damn right dangerous riding/driving. I drove through central London a few weeks back, it has to be one of the scariest experiences of my motoring years. Car mounting pavements, taxis cutting in, cyclists coming at you from all angles.. I'm not sure why motorists think they act any different and why cyclists think they are exempt from the law.

Today I was hit by a car whilst on my bike; when making a right turn the car tried to over take me and took me out at high speed.
I'm sitting here with stitches in my leg, severe grazing on my back & arms and in quite a lot of pain.

This drivers car came off worse, after taking me out she carried on and crashed into a ditch. The front was totally wrecked.
Drivers need to be more aware of cyclists and not take risks trying to save 5 seconds on a journey !!!

I'm sorry to hear that, although I'm glad you're not any more hurt. How's the bike? I take it you were clearly signalling to turn right? Did she hit you hard? Questions?

Whenever i see a annoying cyclist on the road slowing all the traffic down then see that theres a pathway NEXT TO HIM which he can use I just throw abuse his way as im driving past...

Cyclists aren't slowing the traffic down they are traffic.

Pathways are for pedestrians, if you mean a shared pathway, it's not compulsory to use them, the highway code also advises to use the road if your going to be travelling at 18 mph or more.

As for your last comment, google doppler effect. All we ever hear when you drive past is HNGBLAR fUGSPLAPTER!!!!! (or words to that effect :D ) We just assume you're a bit simple, seems we could be right ;)

While I agree that some cyclists can be pillocks, not all of us are - now, I will admit that a few years ago, I had a somewhat unfortunate collision with an almost stationary car. This was entirely my fault, and I fractured my elbow, but my first thought was apologising to the driver and offering to pay for the paintwork.

Now, I am a fairly capable cyclist, but I am TERRIFIED of roundabouts. Due to the number of times I've been cut up on them, I avoid them at all costs. The easiest way for me to do this in the past 2 years has been to cycle down a cycle path which runs in the opposite direction to the traffic flow on a (for motorists) one-way street. Unfortunately, the sheer number of vehicles who park in the cycle lane means that I usually have to get up on the pavement - if there are pedestrians, I will dismount, otherwise I'll just keep the speed down in case some appear.

Incidentally, this is exactly the same road as I use travelling the other direction - in which case I receive constant abuse for not being in the cycle lane (which, as I said, is in the other direction).

I've also been nearly taken out a fair few times by people reversing out of their drives, which is always a scary experience. Pedestrians never show any consideration in shared areas either - the worst of these was under a bridge, where a guy with his partner and a pram stepped into the cycle lane as I was going past. I had to slam on my brakes real hard (and I use tight discs), and I wasn't quite straight so I skidded the back and smashed into the wall. The guy then thought it would be a great idea to have a go at me (I was about 15 at the time), and I probably would have got a beating if my hench friend hadn't been walking past at the time.

tl;dr - Cyclists get a lot of (mainly) undeserved abuse because the majority of PEOPLE (regardless of their mode of transport) are *****.

I had a near collision this Sunday on a roundabout as well, idiot who was so impatient and pulled out on me, even though it was my right of way, forced my way through by cycling beside him and made him stop so I could exit the roundabout and gave him the bloody finger. Next time I will carry rocks in my pockets.

Even though I do understand the fear of roundabouts, I personally don't, if it's bigger roundabout just stay on correct lane and take a whole lane if needed.
And smaller roundabouts make sure you signal correctly.

I was signalling but when she hit me I had both hands on the bar as I was making the turn. The car was on the other side of the road trying to pass me

This has happened to me loads of times too! I've actually been at the centre line and a car has swerved around me :/ It's ridiculous - they wouldn't overtake a car or motorbike signalling right but think they can beat a bike. Luckily not actually been knocked off yet. Sorry to hear about your injuries :(

I was also in the centre of the road.
The moments before the impact the driver was on the horn and was clearly not slowing down or taking any action to avoid hitting me. They carried on and crashed into a ditch and hedge, the car air bags also deployed.

Fairly reckless driving I would say.

Hope you're okay and you heal up well...Its stupid how badly some people drive, she was quite clearly in a rush and (for some reason) didn't put the breaks on????

I hope she's far worse off, people like that shouldn't even be driving

How apt.. This morning I came round an empty large dual roundabout in Chelmsford. Turning right and indicating so (which is more then what most motorists do), a large van was heading toward my left just before my exit. Noticing he hadn't slowed down nor seen me I rightly slowed down.... a heavy screech of his brakes followed by the mandatory abuse. I just carried on afterwards. I felt I was right to slow right down.. If he hadn't seen me I would have been history. I normally make sure I get eye contact on drivers giving way.. Poor chap dropped his phone.
