Cyprus for a family holiday?

Not to offend anyone, but is the language in the south of the island Greek with maybe a regional dialect?

Hi all from Sunny Cyprus

Having a great time.

The people are very friendly, weather and hotel are great and the family is having a great time so thanks to those who helped pursuade me to visit this great country.

Off to laze around on Protaras beach and go for a swim.

Yes = Nai (n-eh)
No = Oxi (oh-hee)
Please = Parakalo
Hello = Yassou (informal) Yassas (polite)
Thank you = efharisto (Ehf-har-ee-stoh)
May I have = boro na egho (egho is a soft g, not like saying egg it's hard to describe).

Cypriot Greek is the same, they just have different intonations and slightly different pronounciation.

Glad you're having fun, only 2 months till I go back to my little paradise! :cool:

I know nothing of Hotels in Cyprus, but September is a lovely time to go. Sun rises quickly, sun sets quickly, but it's cool in the evenings (high teens 17C or so) and warm during the day (33C). Lovely. :)

Excellent place. We got back after 2 weeks in Peyia at the beginning of this month and apart from the pool time it was our boys favourite thing. Get there early if you can to start queuing, it opened at 10:30 i think and we were there for around 10:15 and didn't have to wait to long to get in. Get your towels ready and while one of you gets the locker situation sorted the other go and grab the sunbeds you want.

Any more info required let me know, all fresh in memory (and still wishing i was there) :)

off to germasogeia village tomorrow on the outskirts of limassol for 2 1/2 weeks :)
can't wait. favourite places i have been too so far are the harbour/fortress in kyrenia, kato paphos, troodos (and omohdos village on the way up) and the best thing in the evenings - strolling along the limassol seafront eating bbq'd corn on the cob.

//don't like keo, but leon beer is great!
 
Ayia Napa is rubbish - they've ruined it :( I remember when there were just a few villas and one or two hotels. It was where all the Cypriots (myself included) went for the holidays. Now it's for "clubbers" :rolleyes: Such a waste of a beautiful country and shore line.

Keo > Leon tbh ;)

However I wouldn't touch Efes if you paid me!

Thank you for that. Has served me well the last few days.

Went to Fig Tree bay yesterday and the whole family had a thoroughly enjoyable on the beach which is very nice. I even did some parasending for the first time which was a surreal experience, it is soo quiet 500ft up yet you can see all the hustle and bustle below.

Protaras, althought commercialised, is a nice place.

Went to the Waterpark in Ayia Napa today, had a great time although despite factor 15 and 25 sun lotion applied 3 times during the day, my neck/shoulders/arms/legs all feel as though they have set on fire, this Cyprus sun is relentless ladies and gentlemen.

We hired a car so I thought would drive through Ayia Napa on the way (instead of just going along the highway) as it has intrigued me as none of the locals have a good word to say about it.

In my view, the locals were right, Skegness in the Sun was my thought, such a shame.

We are driving down to Paphos tomorrow from Protaras, anywhere of significance to look out for on the way?

I would also like to add that the Cyprus locals are soooo friendly, taxi drivers can't do enough to help you (even if you have bartered the price with them) and when going into a local shop yesterday, my 1 year old was a little grumpy so the shop owner gave him a lollipop to cheer him up, kind indeed.

When at the waterpark today, my little girl fell over in the toilets so the attendent gave her a chocolate bar, you very rarely see that back home.

I am going to miss this place greatly..... 4 more days left of an amazing holiday, woop.
