It seems like the uncultured swines didn't get this film. I thought it was great, at the time it came out cinema was stale as a nuns. It was nice not to have kids in there also.
A bit harsh but I get the sentiment, I do think too many went into this with preconceived ideas which most films then just pander to; this didnt and on that basis Im grateful...

Whatever this film is to people, its completely different to what youd expect or other films out there - you cant say that about much nowadays...

I didn't really like it :( despite it having RG in it.

Was a bit too moody and I thought the film had much more potential.

The 'chemistry' between RG and CM was a bit zzzzzzzzzzz

I can understand why people didn't like it. Whilst the film overall got excellent reviews, the poor reviews say things like "lack of pace after opening act" "poor chemistry between stars" etc. which are valid points.

Yeah I didn't really think much of it either, ok in parts but no rewatch value at all.

Best film featuring rg is fracture IMO, problem with carrie mulligan is she isn't conventionally attractive (least by hollywood standards) so the whole chemistry thing is harder for her really, still rate her as an actress though, 'never let me go' is one of her best flicks, good chemistry between her and Andrew Garfield.

I really enjoyed it, but the advert was a bit crap.

It was that good, my mate came in to ask me a quick question and never left for the whole movie.

Great movie, you either get it or don't so can see why some cant get along with it.

I think the lack of verbal interaction by gosling, one of the major points people have issues about with his movie, was one of the major parts that set the mood for the film, a mood i felt suited it well.

Action/violance was graphic and 'jack in the box' enough to not need that much but always be lurking.

chemistry wasn't stella between the cast and i would not have cast Shannon the same either but the fact the film worked well regardless is a bit of a testament to gosling and the movie.

Simply stunning.

Wondered into the Cinema after a 12hr all day drinking sesh and boy was it worth it.

Amazing!

The lack of chemistry and dialogue was intentional and did wonders for the tone of the film.

It only added more contrast between the slower, calm scenes and the, at times, very violent, gory action/fight scenes.

This was never going to be a mindless action flick and I am glad it was not. Not for everyone as illustrated by some peoples replies, not going to try sway such persons the other way as it's their loss they did not enjoy it :p

It's not an action film and people seemed to think it was, its not a zero action film but personally didn't like the OTT violence, it went from a fairly not lighthearted but, "nice" film to ultra violence instantly. The same turn around in his situation could have been portrayed without the face being caved in for no reason, etc. Killing him, or knocking him unconcious would have had no effect in the pace/direction of the film or the turnaround, it was just a thing shoved in to be a controversial "ultra violence" talking point.... which worked but didn't need to be in there at all.

As for zero chemistry between the two lead's, rubbish, the type of characters they were, the smiliing, the simple chemistry without talking was portrayed incredibly well by both of them excellently. Other films, other films with Gosling are almost completely the opposite in the chemistry is in the conversation, this was the polar opposite.

It's a good film, but not great, it really felt like it was missing a large chunk of story somewhere, I think realistically being called drive and him being a criminal who drives it never really established that. Something like another small job not far from the beginning and "getting the call" for some big job, and juggling that with helping the husband, bit longer film, more driving, a stronger "he's a driver" storyline would probably have made it feel more complete.

Its ok, but as DM said, the actual character story for the Driver is too paired back.

So he turned up out of nowhere, he is apparently and awesome driver (we dont actually see much awesome driving) he explodes in a couple of scense of ultra violence.

Thats it in a nutshell.

Quite. The fact he is a getaway driver, might just might be the reason the movie was titled as is.

i like how the trailer was for an entirely different style of film...

maybe they knew if they didnt disguise the fact it was an artsy fartsy pos people wouldnt even buy a ticket.

i heard in america loads of people just walked out

Fantastic movie!

The Artist is set to clean up at the Oscars and that is also an incredible piece of movie making. Hot tip for anyone looking for something to go and see at the Cinema!
