* D R I V E *

Seems a lot of people went in to this expecting some kind of action film.

The 'Trailer' didn't give this impression one bit, The trailer plays out like the film, calm, collected, drama, love story, then manic.

Not entirely sure if by trailer you watched a tv advert or some 30s clip on a website, but these are not trailers, they are adverts, designed to pull people in to get your money.

Best film of 2011 by a long shot, Superb Soundtrack, shots, acting and even the action scenes were brutal and unnerving.

Maybe you just didn't understand the film, life isn't spent jibber jabbering with wise arse cracks and macho bullcrap in a garage it's moments when you're sat watching tv with somebody, or just driving in a car, I found far more familiarity with the relationship of the 2 main characters than any run of the mill Hollywood action movie.

People should research Films more before leaping on them, takes 5 seconds to IMDB, check the directors credits, see if you liked any of his previous work, or spend 3 minutes on Apple.com watching the real trailers.

A piece that dared to add substance and style to a genre that is over bloated with 1 layer films like Fast & Furious and its 4 sequels.

10/10

So he turned up out of nowhere, he is apparently and awesome driver (we dont actually see much awesome driving) he explodes in a couple of scense of ultra violence.

Thats it in a nutshell.

I think that's one thing I had a problem with it - would have been nice to see more of his 'jobs' bar the opening scene.

BB x

I saw the film before watching any trailers or reading any reviews/write-ups - I thought it was just going to be a rip-off of the 1978 Ryan O'Neal film "The Driver". I rather enjoyed it!

I like to go to the movies to be entertained, I'm not into "art" or noveau cinema style. I want a good entertaining film. This wasn't entertaining to me. Sure sure, the cinematorgraphy etc... was "cool" and arthouse style... which if you like that sort of thing is fine. It's just not my cup of tea at all. I wouldn't go to the extent of saying it was ****, but it certainly didn't keep my attention.

Each to their own eh? :)

Aye, arty farty came to mind when watching it.

Going to watch this. Can't be any more dry than Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Having watched both recently...id pick drive over tinker...found tinker a bit too slow for my liking whereas drive just seemed altogether a better made movie.

The whole film felt very empty and unsatisfying to me, the only good thing I took away from it was the opening song.

Also the script writers were clearly running very low on ink.

I quite liked it, I will echo some problems others have found i felt the two leading actors came across awkward and RG made me feel a bit cringe when he would take about 30 seconds to answer a yes/no question.

Really LOVED the music, atmosphere and how the the shots were put together, I liked the story for its simplicity

Its not a 10/10 film but its laughable to see people saying its the worst film they have ever seen, very laughable in deed.

7.5/10 for me

No because otherwise its just a string of random events with no meaning.
Not really, seeing further events of him being a getaway driver wouldnt add anything to the story exposition it still would be random event - 'job' - random event - just end up being a time filler.

How would that make it any better if thats what you think anyway?

Naah they used twitter so we constrained by 140 characters per scene :p

ps3ud0

absolutely fantastic film and ost, watched it 3 times now and after the first time i got the oct straight away.

maybe they knew if they didnt disguise the fact it was an artsy fartsy pos people wouldnt even buy a ticket.

i heard in america loads of people just walked out

Yes, it was a fact...that is was an 'artsy fartsy pos'

I love the way it's deemed fine to slate it as an artsy pos but the second someone criticizes conventional hollywood narratives with predictable endings it all comes down to 'EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OPINION'

I've seen Drive 5 times. It's my film of 2011, the acting is brilliant, the cinematography is stunning and the soundtrack is sublime. Great casting all round too.

For the record, this wasn't an artsy film, your brain has just been warped from years and years of watching the same predictable tripe that when something of quaity hits you smack bang in the face, you call it an 'artsy pos'...You want Artsy? Go watch Tree of Life.

That and your name is arknor. I'm fed up with the 'everyone's entitled to their own opinion' BS. You might not have enjoyed the film but it's a fantastic bit of film production.

RAAAAAAAAGE (Yes I work in the film industry and have worked very closely on this title and both cinema and DVD release...)

:D. Beyond the realms of the expected are the gems of the unknown.

100% agree with all of this. Finally got round to watching it last night with a friend and it was fantastic. I enjoyed the slowness of parts, the beautiful calmness of just facial expressions instead of filling with nonsense talking, the scene by the water, the development of the love story, and the moments of explosions of emotion from someone who is very quiet the rest of the time. The only jarring bit for me was the first scene with Ron Perlman, but the rest of his scenes were fine. One of the best films I've seen from 2011, 10/10 from me!
