Still AM listening?
Turn it off to save some power and money :D

Radio stations in London, England — Radiomap.eu

Christ, why is this still going on? It's been ages since I posted in here and I see that @4K8KW10 is still banging his ridiculous DAB+ drum with his troll face on.

Troll face? Why so rude and what exactly you find as trolling?

The technology is now being under development in many countries, and some of them will switch to it sooner or later.

The AM turn off is trolling or?

This is costs optimisation and others have already gone that route.

Will Slovak Radio switch off medium wave broadcasting?
26.01.2022
At the end of this month, the Slovak Radio and Television will switch off the medium-wave transmitter on Rimavská Sobota. Only the stations in Nitra and Čižatice will continue to operate. The public broadcaster is also considering turning off the AM signal at these locations, to be partially replaced by the DAB+ network.

The majority of drivers don't even care, as long as they get a signal.. all is good. I don't even think most people give even a slightest **** about the quality of a radio signal, as long as it is is not noisy (FM) or sounding like a garbled mess (DAB) no one cares.
A car is also far from acoustically ever going to be able to allow you to enjoy such a thing anyway.

Radio is never used for any type of critical listening either.

Wow, this says so much about @4K8KW10

Let's break it down..

"No one needs "more music"
  • People love new songs and new music. Every piece of music that exists today was once another piece of "more music" because it was new. That's how we grow and evolve as humans. The music industry, new artists, new instruments, new interpretations, new directions - it's all based on the idea of creating more music
"People listen to their favourite songs only, at a time maybe 5-10 songs max"
  • Of course people have their favourites, but as others have pointed out, what do you think happens when a person listens to radio? They're exposed to new music. In fact, there are radio programmes and specific DJs who look for new music to bring to a wider audience. When I was growing up it was radio DJs such as Jon Peel, Annie Nightingale, Steve Lamacq, Andy Kershaw. On TV there were programmes dedicated to new music. Manchester TV producer Tony Wilson was pushing the boundaries in regional TV. On the BBC we had 'Whispering' Bob Harris in The Old Grey Whistle Test The trend has continued. There are entire channels dedicated to bringing new music and music outside of the mainstream pop channels to a wider audience. I'm listening to BBC 6 Music online as I type this. The internet offers more choice than regional and national DAB could ever compete with, but good radio stations do have the advantage of well curated selections keeping things fresh.
"People don't need thousands and thousands of unknown and disliked genres which they don't listen to."
  • You do realise it's called choice, yes? The simple fact that all these genres exist means that the musicians making the music like what they're doing. If it is commercial enough to get air play then there must be a market for it. Just because you don't appreciate it doesn't mean that the rest of the world shares your view

I am so sorry you had to read this persons typed garbage.

Hey OP this is the size of my liked songs library on Spotify and I have only been a customer of theirs for 7 months.
This is mostly because of working with others and we can play music at the same time, I ask for the song name and group / band and when I get a chance go through their tracks and add them to my own playlist.

My genre taste is all over the place...

Some music I like...

The genres go on.. my musical taste is wide.. much like I suspect many peoples are.

So, you admit that FM is noisy?! I'd call it terrible.
And here we are talking for everyone, not just the drivers on roads.

Because, yeah, one could argue that the sound quality differences are less noticeable in the noisy car cabin environment.

But at home. There is only one choice - DAB+.

If you have problems with your local DAB/DAB+ quality, ask the system why it cares mostly about profit making.

At home - smart speaker multi room streaming, I think you missed that choice out.

Let me ask you a question,

WiFi or Ethernet?

FM can be but not when tuned right, DAB can be terrible too, but it is not used to great effect in this country. (or sounding like a garbled mess (DAB))
So to us it don't matter.

Streaming is king.

Can you tell me what DAB+ gives me over internet streaming? I stream radio to smart speakers, or via Airplay to my enabled amplifiers but I'd never considered getting a DAB receiver.

I can answer that, DAB brings a really lousy bitrate, especially so when we can now stream 24 bit music from some groups.

Really? OK, I won't bother then. I'm very sensitive to poor bitrate to the point that I can't listen to it. The Mrs doesn't understand when I complain about the bitrate of the audio on some broadcast television.

@Tired9 there is no point reasoning or giving your opinion with 4k he will just tell you you're wrong and continue posting drivel no one cares about.

My opinion is that the thread should be closed but that's up to the mods to decide.

He's still posting his teeny tiny little website sources in the Greta thread in GD and is being received exactly how you'd expect. Thought I'd pop in here to see if this thread was still going, true enough it is.

I still can't see how anyone can parp the merits of DAB for so long and not agree that it's a failed and abandoned tech. Dude's got staying power, I'll give him that :D

I also just learned that I only ever listen to 5-10 songs at a time max :(
