Because Lord Nazir was found NOT GUILTY of killing a man whilst texting.

Why is the law so hard for most people on this forum to understand?

As Flukester said the law in this country is laughable at times so much so that its unbelieveable the way it is actually enforced. On top of that there are often double standards, those in the law get treated one way where as us tax payers have to take the flak.

Can i ask do people on this forum think texting at the wheel is more dangerous than speeding?

Ah the old, police should be catching real crims, if the police just let everybody do what they wanted on the public roads your high street would be like the M6.

Why do bikers have the high and mighty stance when it comes to driving on the public road.

.

afaik the prison service is bursting at seams, in cases like this a ban / fine would be fine, sending him down just costs the taxpayer tons of money for no reason.

high and mighty ? maybe :), but the whole 'speed kills' thing I'm sure some time back was proved to actually be made up :)

there must be limits set and punishments given for those who don't obey, but never prison...

Sending a text message whilst driving through town at 3pm is immeasurably more dangerous than driving down the M5 at 1am at 100mph. Sending a text message at 1am on the M5 at 80mph is immeasurably safer than driving through town at 50mph at 3pm.

Whats your point?

The point is that in my opinion texting is far more dangerous. whether or not Nazir Ahmed was responsible for the death of the other guy is not the point. the point is that by texting you could potentialyy cause a massive accident causing many fatalities and injuries. Thats what they have said about the biker... he didnt actually maime anyone... just because they think there is the potential he has been jailed.

I think there is more potential to maime by texting than speeding, just my opinion :)

The thing is, you don't hear stories of drivers texting at over 120mph in the rain with a child in the car? Not to say it doesn't happen though.

the inspector was obsessed with bikers speeding, to a point where he publicaly broadcasted pictures of a decapitated motorcyclist without asking the relatives.. I think he lost his job in the end if I remember rightly.

Wow, thats quite extreme.

As well all know, speeding doesn't kill. Jees, I could do 167 on the M1 and it would be perfectly safe, even in the wet..

Its about time there were some standards regarding the punishments.

Why should one person get a let off and the other get banged up with rapists ??

Crazy.

Imagine sharing a cell with Rodney rapist and him asking what are you in for ?

"riding my bike too fast"

Its laughable, it really is. It doesnt act as a deterrant, it just makes people think the laws an ass.

So the cost to US the taxpayer is MORE to have the guy inside for those months than he paid in fines.

Just bleeding typical.

I hope he appeals. Does he have appeal rights in a Magistrates?

I would not expect a Fiesta driver to understand high speed.

No I am not being funny, its essentially true. The more capable your car, the safer faster speeds potentially are.

There's speed limits, if you can't stick to them within reasonable limits then don't drive. I don't need a 150mph car to understand 150mph on a public highway is dangerous. There are other factors in a crash, say your car is doing 140mph, the car ahead does not judge your speed correctly and pulls into your lane, what chance do you have of stopping?

So your saying even in a fiesta you have not gone more than 70? even by mistake?

I have edited my post :p

I have done 85mph to clear a line of slow traffic and that's about it really. Most of my driving is around town. I'm not going to say I'm the safest driver around and I've never broken the limit because that's not true. I'm just saying speeds in excess of 100mph are dangerous, not necessarily because of the driver or the car, it could be the way someone could pull in front of the car or brake sharply and the speeding car cannot stop in time.

i highly doubt it hwas torrential rain. i've done similar before (and if i had 14 year old child, and felt safe enough doing it myself, i'd do it with him on the back too).

He was probably a few miles from home, felt it starting to spit, sped upto 122 where it was safe, which takes all of 100metres and no gear change, when off and running.

Shouldnt even be banned, but i appreciate you do for that sort of thing. Prison is just ******* ridiculous.

lot of biker hate in this thread too!

Yes, I agree, but this is why I have a 365mm 6 Pot setup on the front.

Anyway, 150 should really be done on a quiet stretch of road, thats how most people interpret things.

Its not realistic to expect to do 150 next to cars that are doing 70.

If you have a 4 lane motorway, its quiet, and its at night, I see no reason why 150 is any problem at all..

Does anyone remember Stu-Pid Riding??

What happened to those guys? That was 181 on an A road, next to cars, plus an awful lot more, but we are talking about speed here.
