Yep, and I can make a dozen similar links with just one or two little twists... doesn't mean it holds any water, though.
Just because someone can, doesn't make it right.
But it doesn't make it wrong either. Black people have been called monkeys many times and still happens in
football frequently enough. It's the most low effort racist slur you can go for. I can't work out if people are being deliberately awkward to try and
not see the racial connotations.
Yes indeed. Perhaps not as frequently as some might like, and I've no idea how frequently it must be to justify a racist grievance, but it did indeed happen.
Being a primate, humans are often compared to apes and monkeys, as well as many other animals. I've been called a disgusting pig, a filthy frog (cue all French people to scream Racism) and all sorts.
Never was it to do with my race, skin colour or anything of the kind, though.
If it happens once, that's once too often. Yes. Humans are often compared to apes and monkeys but you are missing my point either willingly or not. There is substantial history with blacks and the word monkey/ape being used as a derogatory term towards us. No one worth anyones time is going to call the evolution theory racist cause it shows man evolving from monkey but lets not pretend that history hasn't tried to show blacks as being subhuman and the step bellow. I'm sorry you've been called such names and it's fortunate it wasn't to do with your race, skin colour or any other characteristics of you. But sadly there are some really horrible people out there who will simply compare you to animals just because of your skin colour (this goes for everyone)
Of course I can see how some might think that way, just as I can see how other, similar minds devised it as a racist slur in the first place.
But again, that thinking alone doesn't make it indisputable proof that the alleged slurer believes one race to be superior to another.
I've never once said I think he is a racist. I just said he should've known better. I don't know the man so I can't judge his character. I've never even knew of his existence prior to this monthly outrage so i can't categorically say he is or he isn't a racist. But what I can categorically say is that he is clearly an idiot who doesn't think about what he is doing. I know that much, for sure.
Yes, but that's irrelevant, isn't it?
All that matters is that SOMEONE thinks it's bad, so we must all change our ways to suit them.
It's not someone thinks it's bad. An segment of a population who probably were on the receiving end of those racist remarks at one point or another found it offensive. Them finding it offensive and you not finding it offensive doesn't make their feelings invalid.
Yeah? So flippin' what??!!
Why on Earth are those with fewer that two brain cells dictating how we live our lives??!!
They aren't dictating it. People knew exactly what Barry Hearn meant and have moved on with their lives. He probably could've picked any other word but I doubt he ever meant anything ill with what he said. Again, it's a case of people not thinking about what they are saying.
Why should they?
Why should they not instead work to stamp out this idiocy and force said people to think before they spit grievance?
Why should they grovel to the whims of crybullies?
.
Because this happens. Had he just took a step back and thought "Hold on, could this be taken in a wrong way" he'd still have a job. Instead he didn't and just chucked it up without thinking about it. That's his real crime. Stupidity.
