Dark Souls 3

Yep, loving this so far. Feels a lot like Demon Souls in some areas in terms of level design/style. Then feels a bit like Bloodborne in other areas like some of the new mob design.

First boss got him on 2nd attempt he's way easier than crystal lizard. That katana dude ain't bad. I will have to try parrying him. Ohh does anyone know why when you die the mist at firelink doesn't let you leave until you rest?

Ffffssss doublekill. I fought him arts style we both hit same time!

I thought it might be still loading at that point.

Not trolling. I was super excited about DS3. I preordered it and started straight away last night.

In fairness, it's a fine game and I'm sure I'll play it through fully, but that's more because of a lack of other good titles than me being blown away by DS3.

Honestly, after a couple of hours of playing I was having a strong sense of deja-vu, and not in a good way. I'm saying this in the context of it being two years since the last game and understanding the importance of keeping true to the franchise, but the engine doesn't feel like it's changed much at all. It's even the same DS2 sound when you respawn at the bonfire. Same weapons (albeit with slightly improve sets) and same spells (from what I've seen).

The bosses I've fought seem decent, but that's expansion/DLC level content.

Call me old fashioned, but I expect more from a sequel otherwise after a couple of games I start making comparisons with Call of Duty.

The true test is the fact that I'd cleared the entire evening to play it tonight, and I'm not actually playing it :)

Personal opinion though, obvs.

I know your not mate. Play a bit more and learn the new mechanics and your mind might change. The whole experience is streamlined now. I must admit the graphics could do with more colour, like the DSFix mod I used on Dark Souls. The visuals could do with being sharper, with a better colour palette. Very Bloodbourne-esque.

The armour is very similar, but how could it be improved? What delightful rare armour is there to find on some obscure corpse? It makes me excited writing about it.

Weapons look the same but work completely differently, look at the weapons art video I posted earlier, From Software have done special animations and damage effects for every weapon, from a simple longsword/halberd etc. and on.

Give it more time, I'm sure it'll grow on you. I've been playing Dark Souls Prepared to Die with the DSFix for 90 hours, so I think I'm fit to judge how good this is. DS2 was poor compared to Demon Souls, Dark Souls, and unless this gets dramatically worse, or there are more slowdown issues, this too.

I think he's still the toughest first boss in the series. Won't say the technique you have to use, but it takes bravery(unless magic).

Ahhh, how??? I literally can't touch him past 75% health. He just destroys me. I might play through to the first boss, collect them souls and titanite and then face him.

Playing knight just copy his stance and do your arts move R2 timed correctly before his same move. I found if I went close and tried to outdodge him his ridiculous 5? hit combo manages to get me. So I kept my distance.

It seems embers operate differently. I used one not sure but does it just do a temp buff on character?

Anyway now stuck nowhere to go...will retrace my steps

Embers are like humanity, you just don't need to reverse hollowing at the bonfire, another class touch by From Software. It gives your health a boost, that you lose whilst co-op'ing.

Only thing i dont like so far is parrying sucks, your window is so small like DS2(I never used it in that game as it was stupid hard)

I miss parrying!!! :(

When you think about it, how hard would parrying a 100mph sword be? But, at the end of the day the game is a game, and I wish it was more like Dark Souls in this department, but like someone told me, he saw someone from From Software parrying for fun. So it is possible, and like the person said I was talking to on this thread, it will be very rewarding once you have mastered it.

It would be very easy if you could parry as easily as you can in Dark Souls, if you were coming into this game with previous experience.

My Dark Souls/Bloodbourne skills are flooding back to me....killed the 1st boss without even being hit once and killed him first time...

Although I'm having a lot of trouble with the black knight near the Dragon he hits like a truck and quickly

Hrmmm had first 'connection to steam interrupted' was promptly kicked back to main menu Did this happen in DS2 where if you lose online it kicks you out of game...? I'm sure in previous souls games it just moved you to offline mode automatically.
