Dark Soul's: Prepare to Die Edition (PC)

It's really frustrating when someone calls it a shoddy port just because you can't change the resolution or framerate.

If anything, it's the best port of all time - it's 100% exactly the same as the console version.

Ah ha, that was the point I was trying to get across, you are playing the console version on your PC with no slowdowns and fast load times. I really fail to see how this is a bad thing. I am happy to be playing it on the PC with all the extra DLC.

It's a shoddy effort and they should have hired some competent people to port it correctly.

All the negativity surrounding this port will probably lead to it being pirated a whole lot more than if it had been done correctly and without GFWL.

You mean because they did not add any extras like upgraded textures? They said all along it would be a straight port, it worked well on consoles it works the same on PC. They ported it exactly the same, but with faster load times and no slowdowns. That sir is not shoddy. Shoddy ports are ports that are worse or need more power then the console counterparts.

But the PC replicating console slowdown is surely not a good thing? The console is constrained by ageing hardware, so I have sympathy. The PC is not so I don't.

EDIT: Wait are we now saying there is no slowdown? That's contrary to what I had read. I read numerous reports suggesting regular slowdown in crowded areas to 16fps or less. If that has been solved or was erroneous to begin with then I retract the above comment.

I have not dipped below 30 yet, well once I hit 29 when I turned fast. I have also seen what you have seen, but I have also seen reviews where they state the PC does not suffer from the slowdowns due to the pure grunt. Time will tell as the game progresses.

That'd be every port then.

It's a shoddy port, undermines the whole point of gaming on PC, superior and sharper visuals and a higher frame rate etc.

Well I don't think this one needs more power, my GPU might as well go to sleep lol. I reckon I could run it from my onboard graphics.

But anyway we are all entitled to our views. I am just happy to be playing again at a solid framerate.

Just saw some screenshots of the game, and they looked dreadful! I hope it looks better than them! Stretched textures are horrible.

If you built a machine that mirrored the spec of the PS3 and the 360 dark souls wouldn't have a chance in hell of running.

Because of optimisations console developers make, they will always get more out of the hardware, ergo you will always need more raw power to run the game games at the same settings etc.

I know it was never the best looking, but even when I played it on console it didn't look that bad (due to stretched textures I guess) Your screen looks a bit better.

The main thing that annoys me is the size of the UI! Takes up nearly half the screen!

10/10 For packaging this is a ridiculous amount of physical content for the std game price the book is very high quality Namco are insane they must have spent a lot on the extra physical goodies ;)

....and someone took all of 23 mins to fix the textures issue & make them look very good indeed ;)

I have a feeling the PC modders will have a field day on this game now if 1 guy can unlock the restriction in 23 mins.........

He hasn't fixed the textures, he's fixed the rendering and upscaling so it now renders at 1920x1080.

Do you not read half the stuff you link to? Like the "Facts" about dark souls which were all opinions from some random on a forum.
And in what dimension does that look remotely good? We're in Q3 of 2012 for christ sake.

He also had this to say ;

Honestly, at this point, unless something turns up later in the game, the only explanation is that they just don't give a bleep. It's that simple.

As it wasn't hard.
