Darkfall - Jan 22nd (maybe...)

Been trying for a bit this morning but I can't seem to get past a network timing error, anyone else managed to register?

Hang on, 19% VAT? Where has that come from? Works out at a monthly sub of £11.64 at current exchange rates if that is the case, or £9.89 with the 6 month discount. How does that compare to other MMO's?

£9.89 seems pretty par for the course, mind you I would pay 4 times that for a decent MMO.

WAR - £8.99
AOC - £11 I think
WOW - £9?

Not going to risk signing up for 6 months service for a mmo, been stung by AOC before.

The price of the game is mad £37 lol, dream on, I will wait for proper reviews to come about before even looking at it again.

I'd have to agree here the pricing for a download is ridiculous especially as the beta has raised so many issues. I thought steam showed how successful a low price can be. This smacks of trying to cash in o the anticipation. Waiting for at least a month or two here and I consider myself a semi fanboi for this game.

the price for a digital download of £37 is a massive joke.
the subscription price beeing much higher than i believe every other mmo on the market is also a massive joke.
19% vat is yet another massive joke, does any country in the eu even have 19% VAT?

the videos on youtube also make the game look like a massive joke that may have been succesful 8 years ago.
There is 19% VAT added to both the initial payment of 2.52 Euro and to the remainder (39.48) for residents of the European Union. The same applies to all the subscription charges. People outside the EU will not be charged VAT.
that also sounds like the VAT isnt even added onto the subscription and cost of the game they list aswell?.

also no american will pay 52$ for this the WAR collectors edition didnt cost much more than 52$ and for that you got a huge box packed full of quality content.
americans also wont pay a monthly sub of almost 15$ the game will fail hard

-More of a graphical issue than a UI one, but there is no true widescreen support, so playing in a widescreen resolution doesn't result in a wider angle of view - it simply stretches everything resulting in a fat/inflated look.
everything i hear about this game gets worse and worse !! on paper it all sounded great but since NDA lifted its nothing but horror stories

Darfail !

I cant in all honesty say that everything I have heard about this is bad, I have heard a mix of both positive and negative reviews. Which is exactly what I expected to hear from a game of this style.

As for the price, I truly cant say that £37 bothers me either, I usually pay 30-34 quid for my games so an extra £3 really doesnt even make me blink twice. Equally £10 a month doesnt bother me for a monthly subscription cost either, I spent £20 today on Pizzas and they didnt last me anywhere near as long as the gametime on an MMO in a month.

I'll pick the MMO up for day one, see if its any good, if its not I'll just cancel , no harm done, if it is good then thats a bonus :)

Allow me to help you on that :)

Standard VAT rates for EU countries

Austria 20%
Bulgaria 20%
Belgium 21%
Cyprus 15%
Czech Republic 19%
Denmark 25%
Estonia 18%
Finland 22%
France 19.6%
Germany 19%
Greece 19%
Hungary 20%
Iceland 24.5%
Italy 20%
Latvia 18%
Lithuania 18%
Luxembourg 15%
Malta 18%
Netherlands 19%
Norway 25%
Poland 22%
Portugal 20%
Romania 19%
Slovakia 19%
Slovenia 20%
Spain 16%
Sweden 25%
Switzerland 7.6%
United Kingdom 15%

So to answer your question, yes quite a lot of eu countries have 19% (or more even, so for some people the 19% is actually a good thing) VAT. Look at those lucky swiss though :D

It's EU VAT, they could have charged up to 25% technically, but as it is 19% in Greece that's what they went for.

I've been in the beta for a while now and it's a fantastic game, just without polish. They have the base for what could be quite simply the best MMO ever made. However, it is nowhere near a finished product and has many features missing or broken. I will still be buying it though, as will most of my clan.

All the more power to you. However,

So - 2.52 + 19% = 3 euros
and 39.48 + 19% = 47 euros

So the actual price youll be paying is 50 euros or £44.16 currently. I think thats a mad price to pay for an untested game that doesnt even come in a box but if you really really want in its only two pizza deals, so I suppose its all relative. Personally I cant say for sure Ill love this game, I thought I would have AOC but that bored me to tears, so I wont be spending £44 or the most expensive game ive every bought (and a download even more) until a couple of reviews and probably some patches. Loving LOTRO at the mo, so no biggie for me.

It's getting pretty positive scores so far from the community, i'm always a sucker for MMO's so I'm buying it anyway. Need something to fill the time even if it only lasts me a few months I'm going to give it a shot.

It is a pretty steep price but that's because of the weak pound against the euro and can't be helped.

Yup as you rightly say, its all relative. I've paid £44 before for some shoes which I only ever wore once, so £44 for something that gives me 30 days of fun (at the least) seems like a relative good deal to me :)

As I say, if it turns out to be bad its no big loss. Its still a lot less than I have paid for some bad things in my life.

i think the more worrying this is its breaking a trend even the biggest of mmos are scared to try, GOA wanted to but listened to threads calling for a subscription inline with WOW's

I dont really think so, I dont think DF was ever aimed at being a mass market MMO, its appeal is extremely limited to a specific MMO user type. The full loot FFA pvp was never going to appeal to the majority so I dont really see any detriment in having a subscription fee thats higher

Make sure you post your experiences, would be quite interesting to read some opinions post launch and the official forums are always such a mess.

I'd actually pay good money to see the average WoW player's face when someone knocks him out and steals all his equipment.
