Darkfall - Jan 22nd (maybe...)

Bit off topic, but if this is a common problem for you I'd suggest you looking up using Putty and SSH tunnels. Will need to get yourself access to some kind of 'nix server.

I have tried VPN solutions and all sorts of things, but have not tried using a shell yet as I dont want to pay out the money without being 100% that I can get it working. I have also tried Proxies with Proxifier, SocksCap etc.

If these dont work, will SSH tunnels?

are you in beta? an online friend of mine who ive played mmo's with for around 10 years is in the beta and he said in the last patch they added sentry towers to places that dont make sense because they apear in areas that arent suposed to be safe.

he made it sound almost as if they were spread out like checkpoints

If he is in beta then he will also be fully aware that Tasos himself said that the towers were only for the beta, not for release, although they *might* keep the towers near the noobie areas. Which would have course make it even more like the town guards in UO, and I see no problem with that.

I can see you are still skeptical of what I am saying though Arknor, and god forbid that your "online friend" might be wrong, but here, allow me to post the words of a DF staff member on the "sentry tower things that kill pkers lol "

Ok, I had to post this three times last night, and twice in the beta forums. I'd hoped I wouldn't have to do it again. I'm just going to say a shortened version.

Wilderness towers, do not exist.

There were a few towers in the game from day 1 of beta that no one complained about or noticed.

There there are towers in the starter noob cities. Nobody complained about these, we've known for years from Tasos himself that noob towns would not be able to be captured or taken over.

Now the issue sprang up when two things happened. The first thing that happened is one tower was added to a quest hub in each racial area, right next to newbie towns. As in, where there were ALREADY towers. One tower, as opposed to the 6+ that exist in the noob towns.

Now one tower, just one single solitary tower was accidentally placed in the wilderness, ONE tower, and its slotted to be removed (probably already is). This ONE tower created a wave of panic that made people start complaining about "wilderness towers". There are no towers in the wilderness. There is one bugged tower in the wilderness that is about to be removed.

The other towers that were added, were all just added to the quest hub in the newbie zones. That's it.

And there you have it.

They not left you a single solitary port direct to the outside world you can use?

What's your point exactly, other than to insult everyone?

My point was it is over priced for a game and people obviously dont value money if they are prepared to through away £40 in the hope that a game is good. The person that I was talking about stated that he had nothing to lose and £40 didnt mean anything.

Personally I think it is a lot of money when they could easily give the game away cheaper or for free if its a MMO. Obviously if they price it at £40 ish then they are looking to get as much as possible in the first hit and have little faith in their actual product.

If it was that good they would pull people in with a taster.

I wasnt judging the game by graphics alone. It didnt look anything special in the game play either and hardly any originality in its features.

*snip*

It's one of those games that can't be explained in a few informative sentences, you have to go and read what the game involves. It's a bit like Eve in the aspect that you can have trading compnies, pirates etc.

I guess we all take a gamble really, I thought Age of Conan was fantastic right up until it started to become a normal grindfest mmo after about level 30. No levels in this means you can start and do whatever you want with only skill based leveling to worry about which progresses while doing the things you want to do.

Some of us arent 14 living off Mommys pocket money. £40 is nothing, £10 is below that - And if it recreates any of the brilliance of UO, its more than worth it.

Could you send me £40 then if its nothing. I didnt mention I was 14 my remarks might have been considered of that of a 14 year old though lol

I am on good money and I still value £40 as a lot of money to throw against a wall. And I wish I did get pocket money still, would be nice :)

I still dont see how you can say £40 is nothing. Wouldnt you prefer to spend £40 on your wife/gfriend/bfriend/daughter/son than waste it on a game that will be free to download in a few months?

The comments about pizza were just the images that I got when i read the thread. The only thing the person could compare £40 to was pizza which sort of pushes your thoughts towards someone that sits at their computer in the dark playing MMO games eating pizza. So if that was the case, they would probably be single, with no caring about money, no bills, so they probably live at home with their parents.

That is how i came to the conclusion. ;)

But you have a GTX280 :p

But you have a GTX280 :p

Whats that got to do with it? If you are referring to the cost of the card and value for money, which I assume you are.

The card was a birthday present from my wife and daughter. Which was also helped with the sell of my old grahics card for £160 and the fact that I got my 280 when they were only going for £250.

So yes it is value for money as it is garranteed for ten years. And it is also a very appreciated present from my wife and daughter.

So a 280GTX upgrade or a game for £40 and 5 months subsription? Mmm...

I hope that explains your comment.

Calm down dear, it was only a joke, see the tongue?

Still, compare the price to that of a console game, and it's still cheaper, viva la pc gaming!

I am not upset love (:p). I was just answering your question and justifying the cost, as you state the 280 is a lot of money. And I certainly wouldnt have got it unless it was a present.

My original comment about the pizza was only meant as tongue in cheek but i do find peoples reactions funny :D

Console comment: That is why I dont own a console.

My comments arent all about how much it cost, (although that is pricy for a pc game) but more the flippent remark that £40 is nothing to him.

Do you consider it a lot?

I wouldn't personally pay that for most games, but then I'm currently on a very tight budget, if I didn't have my debt, £40 isn't a massive amount of money, I spend about £50-£60 on a night out, so this would be more value for money really.

Its not throwing away £40 if it turns out to be good, and you could even say its not throwing away £40 if it turns out that its not good, at least you then have a personal informed opinion. I dont have anything to lose by trying it out myself, its got nothing to do with valuing money. Its simply that I have plenty of money in the bank and £40 to try something out makes no impact on my money at all. If I didnt spend the £40 on it I would most likely just "waste" it on a needless pizza or an equally needless pair of jeans or something.

If you were referencing me in the pizza comment, I merely used pizza because it was topical as I had just spent a load on pizza that day. For continued reference, I am not single (been married for 18 years), have a kid, do have bills, have my own house so I dont live with parents. (Though admittedly I dont have any money cares)
