Hard to know how it's going to turn out, seems like a massive task for such a small company. I'll probably give it a go though, purely because it's a bunch of guys making a game that they'd play, rather than a dev team being told to make something exactly like WoW, except better.

I play WAR. I am a veteran MMOer and i demand depth/variation in them.
WAR is a strange one and i can't put my finger on it. It has a lot more than meets the eye, but things like scenario's mean people don't see it. Majority i bet don't explore half of the zones or content, and it is huge, because there is often no percieved need. What i do like is the Tome of Knowledge, and there are so many things you can unlock. I play it because the game itself is pretty solid and i have waited long enough for an ok MMO. It's good to OK, that's it. It has enough tools for me to make my own fun however.
I like the diea of Darkfall, but i am long enough in the tooth to know it's a believe when i see it situation. People who saw Dark and Light will side with me here, that was shocking and unsurprisingly French

Yeah, at the moment thats the tempting draw for me towards Darkfall, if they can get close to the UO kind of MMO instead of the "modern" MMO, then I will be very excited. I have no idea if they can do it, and if they do I expect it will be very niche as the majority of MMO'ers simply wouldnt tolerate the UO style of MMO. I'm happy with playing a niche MMO though, especially if it can recapture something of what made UO just so special.
I have been on the bloody guild closed beta list 4 years!!!

I don't know if it's true or not but it was rumoured for a december release with the beta going on. Or very early Q1 next year.

They failed because they were terribly bad games, some with gameplay stopping bugs. Wow succeeded because it was easy to play and moderately fun. Darkfall is not trying to topple WoW or even compete with it directly, which is an area where all the others you mentioned failed.
If Darkfall offers the features they say they are going to and if it doesn't have any major issues then it will easily succeed as there is a large demand for a game like that.
Well doesnt that kind of depend upon what the devs are aiming for with the game?
Of course its not going to have as many subscriptions as WoW, its appeal is to a VERY different audience. It will be a niche MMO, with the same appeal as UO had.
Would you for instance declare that Eve online is a failed MMO? Just because its aiming for a particular niche of players (and getting them quite nicely too)
There sure is mate, its a long time since I played UO but its still the benchmark MMO for me. There hasn't been anything since that offered the same amount of freedom. For me a true MMO makes you feel like you can do whatever you want. Very few if any offer this level of freedom anymore, which is why I've been looking forward to Darkfall ever since I heard about it.
Also I've just been having a look at your guild's website. If you're recruiting any chance I could join up?
The guys who did the preview have released some footage of them at Aventurine. could have been longer and included more new info but better than nothing.
