Just seen this over at Hardocp:

"We received confirmation from Microsoft that the Xboxic information was indeed accurate and that an update was “imminent”. Unfortunately, that update was supposed to head to production today but a few minor issues pushed the target date back to Monday".

Excellent. Apparently one of the bugs is the PGR3 crash on some systems. Hopefully it will stop my mates. Or when I try to go back to dashboard on it.

Since getting my disc swapped it's not done it since by the way.

Any inside info as to where the update is gonna save? MU or HD or on a dedicated place on the console.

I expect it wont need any storage, it'll just use the flash memory in the console.

Its highly unlikely a firmware update is going to be stored on a memory card or the hdd, its pretty much 100% is going to be internal.

Cool! Well on site at moment so can't check myself, but if anyone has any news of 'when' it's updating (GMT), post in here please.

Remember the good old days where the dashboards in consoles didn't need ugrading and games didn't need patching.

The 360.... welcome to the age of lazy programming.
:)

The dashboards didnt used to do half the stuff they do now though.

From the PSX I remember being able to browse memory card and play a music cd with a visualisation, not exactly much to go wrong was there!

Probably because older consoles either didnt have a dashboard, or they only let you adjust system settings or delete save games. The 360's is a bit more complex than that, and is hardly riddled with bugs anyway.

From what I can gather, yes there are bug fixes in this update, but there are also enhancements too.

Hopefully this will be released today... Any ideas on how someone would go about getting it?

Will it automatically download when connected to Xbox Live? I really hope not, I'd like the option to decide whether or not I update at that moment in time... think I'll leave it a couple of days to see if anyone has/notices any big problems with it.

Who said older consoles were defect free and the programming wasn't lazy.

This offers programmers to identify glitches not picked up in testing or that they were not able to sufficently test ( like the time it takes to get enough players for a matchmaking game)

I certianly welcome the facility to upgrade and patch as I think we well get better products in the end.

I feel that on older consoles, more effort was made to make a product bug free because the companies had one shot at it.
Once the game was out, it was out. Full stop.

Now there is a chance to patch console games, I can see with my own eyes that there are bugs being found that would NEVER have existed if the companies didn;t know that they were able to release patches.

So on one hand it is good that you can download on the off chance that something has gone wrong, but on the other hand...... LAZY PROGRAMMING !!!
For example...
That DOA4 bug that can overwrite your save if the game loads faster than your profile. Something that simple and obvious should never have been sent out in a final product and probably wouldn't have if the company knew they only had one shot at releasing something.

Sorry, gotta stand in here.

Lazy programming is not the right words to use. Imagine if you will the dashboard update didn't exist, and something came along, like the eye-toy, a new controller, the ability to plug in USB headphones, etc, etc.

Because the update was available for MS to update, would you still class this as lazy programming because the programmers didn't have the ability to read the future?

Sorry, but "lazy programming" for an update isn't the words to describe it.

I'm sorry but crash bandicoot on the psx had a bug whereby I couldn't get past a certain part of the game without it crashing, even when the discs were swapped the same thing happened.

Now try and tell me lazy programming didn't exist with the old consoles?

I dont see how you can say they are lazy, they do a billion things more now :O, a 2d game like sonic is pretty simple compared to Cod2 therefore less mistakes

we wont be getting it today its in the US 2day and UK get it early hrs monday morning, its also got COD2 fix coming 2morrow\wednesday morning
