Dashcams. Who uses them?

Mini 0801/0803 are completely independent. I have them wired straight into a 12v line for a cigarette lighter socket I don't use. I have them wired in via USB via dual USB cigarette socket, you just have to make sure you get one that can handle certain amps through each socket at the same time.

Got my 0803 today, but the connection through the mount was very intermittent and required you to lift the right hand side of the camera slightly, to make a good connection in the mount

I've returned it and am wondering if it is worth buying another one, or buying something else

Possibly thinking of buying another one and if the mount is dodgy again, just using a right angle usb adaptor and plugging directly into the cam itself. The reason for the right angle connector is as the factory supplied cable pushed up against the windscreen if connected into the cam

What's your views? How many people have issues with their 0803's?

Thanks

I view my dashcam as insurance against all the idiots out there. Sure, many will argue that they're unnecessary, and you'd be better relying on witnesses etc, but for the sake of a few quid I'll always have one.

I just delete the rear camera footage unseen and save two SD cards full from front camera then delete the oldest footage and replace with latest - never look at it but it's there if needed.

To me it's just a backup if needed.

I will say that quite a few tailgaters have suddenly dropped back when they noticed rear camera - I mean they were going know where as I was also stuck behind vehicles in front.

How did that happen?

Also, how would a dash cam help (assuming he was travelling slower than the HGV and the HGV approached from behind?). You'd think other motorists could help or even the odd traffic cameras dotted about.

At a guess, the car was in the HGV's somewhat large blind spot, the HGV driver didn't check his mirrors properly nor wait for the car to move once indicated his intention to pull out.

A dash cam might have got the trucks license plate but doubtful I'd guess.

Soo impressed by the Mobius so far and am happy I didn't get the problematic Mini 0803 :p

Very reliable, easy to work, nice to program on your pc/laptop and isn't easy to see. Hardwired it to the under glovebox ciggy light with a Scosche revolt double usb socket (GET ONE, the best one out there, high current rating and also a tiny low profile).

I've got 2 Mini 0803 and they've been great so far. I updated the firmware on them and they haven't crashed or had any issues. The Mini 0801 I had went back as they kept crashing.

Whatever you do, buy from a UK seller. You will pay a little more but it saves sending things back to China if you have any issues.

Have a forward facing ITB100HD, more so for peace of mind that in the event I have a non-fault accident there no chance of it being disputed (provided it's captured by the camera).

Without a screen the best is probably one of the BlackVue ones. They are pricey though.

In the budget range, it's probably the Mobius.

Some good info on this site and its forums: https://dashcamtalk.com/

Remember to check out the mounting options when judging what is discrete. Some cameras are small but have huge satnav style mounts.
