Dashcams!

ive just looked at your car, i don't think it would cost that much to repair
you could also go and get a free estimate from your local body shop repairer, at least you will get an idea of cost to get it done (with insurance or not)

Yeah that's not horrific damage.

By the time the tyre marks are cleaned off it wouldn't look half as bad either.
It’s straight through the paint fyi not just a mark

Had to leave the car at my mums, from what I’ve read it’s illegal to drive without the drivers mirror and tbh I didn’t feel comfortable doing so. Wing mirror was power fold…not sure how much they are

Yes I reliased there's damage there, but the tyre marks do make it look even worse.

Best bet is to pick up a second hand mirror. East job to replace, just involves taking the door panel off.

Not guilty m’lord! :D

But seriously, blind spots in trucks are unbelievable, I’ve recently had a near side camera monitor fitted to my artic, I’m aware of blind spots, but, it’s been a shock - not least a revelation - to me just how many cars & vans are invisible to my mirrors yet picked up by this new camera….

Basically, stay away from trucks, we can’t see you!

A few years ago we decided to fit 360 degree cameras to all our trucks. The driver has a screen in the cab and can see all 4 cameras. its been a god send. Saved numerous near misses and makes dealing with any accidents a doddle as easy to prove it was the other drivers fault.

yes, side swipe, damage doesn't look too bad unless suspension system has been misaligned ..
lorry drivers not really paying attention if he doesn't remember what is on slower lane as he overtakes, to leave sufficient gap before moving left ? whereas pulling out to overtake he has potentially faster vehicles coming up to leave space for ... is that too simplistic ?
In towns with cyclist undertaking that's much more problematic.

I'd like a camera on a trial basis to see whether night time image capture is up to it.

I’m told the amount of incidents these cameras have prevented or provided video evidence proving who was in the right has already paid for the cost of the cameras across the fleet!

I imagine that they also focus the mind of the driver somewhat knowing that the the footage can be recalled in an incident also.

That incentive doesn’t really apply to a private driver because they can pull the old ‘sorry the SD card died/corrupted and I didn’t know it wasn’t working’.

Well, I'm hoping it'll be straight forward, he said he didn't even know he'd hit us. Only stopped due to seeing the disruption with traffic behind him (well...that's his words but at least he stopped)

I will probably flip-flop but looking to get the BlackVue DR750X-1CH - will add the back cam later when funds allow.

Yeah we found very quickly the money saved on accidents more than paid for the camera systems. They arent cheap at £2k per truck though but they are fantastic and we have a good laugh at the footage sometimes.

Amazing what some people try and claim against our drivers and as soon as we send the footage in, the claim is dropped. Lots of claims which would have been 50/50 as they would have been out driver's word vs theirs have been settled 100% in our favour.

Came in really handy when one of out trucks unfortunately squashed a motorcyclists under his wheels. turns out he was an off duty policeman so you would imagine there would have been a lot of finger pointing at our driver but our footage shows the motorcyclist coming round the bend way too fast and he slides across the road under the rear wheels of our truck. We handed the footage over to the police and 3 weeks later got a letter saying they would be taking no further action against our driver.

It works the other way as well though. We have had accidents where its been 100% out driver's fault and with the all round cameras in the cab, there was absolutely no excuse for our driver to have not seen the vehicle. Does mean we can more easily get rid of problem drivers though.

I think vehicles should come with these as standard as time goes on. It would help cut down insurance fraud.

Mine eventually served its purpose after a young driver drove into me on a 4 lane roundabout. I was in the second outer lane, arrowed as being able to leave the roundabout or carry straight on (I was leaving the roundabout), they were in the outermost lane marked as leave only and wanted to stay on the roundabout, so they drove into my rear passenger door. Hopefully that makes sense.

Without the dashcam it would have been a 50/50 I think, as even after showing the other driver the dashcam footage they stuck with my being at fault. Sent the footage to their insurance company and they admitted fault for the berk who drove into me.

I have a Viofo A129 Duo and I've just set it up and forgotten about it really.

@Scania fault :p :D

seriously though, hope your ok

currently on offer :
I presume with the BlackVue when hardwiring it you can just turn off the parking mode so it only turns on/off with ignition?

blackvue seem to have an outlet, if you a ready to fit it yourself,
a single front channel at a higher 4k resolution (if the cmos receptor+optics+uP are genuinely better than 1080), versus 2view through my often dirty/angled rear estate window, would be a trade-off I'd consider.
