Dashcams!

I've been a bit remiss and have not checked any footage from my 522GW since I installed it several months ago. However, today I put in into our other car and then thought I'll have a gander after my drive. Not impressed with the quality TBH, I've got it on 1440/30 and it's really grainy even on the high files. Number plates are almost unreadable (passing and oncoming) unless I'm right behind a car at lights etc. Not what I thought I'd be seeing so don't know if it's faulty or not set up right.

1st thing i would do mate, is update the firmware on it, and check it again

Daft question but are you reviewing the footage on the camera itself or have you exported it / watching via a phone app? I think those cameras are used often on dashcam YouTube channels and the footage is usually good.

EDIT - Actually, on this footage it is hard to make out reg numbers unless you pause the video: https://youtu.be/Dg1BI7AhAEI

I copied it and watched on PC via VLC.

My footage doesn't look as good as that video either. I've reformatted the SD card so I'll check it tomorrow.

@Scania fault :p :D

seriously though, hope your ok

currently on offer :

32 GB seems a little on the low side for a dual camera.

Do make sure you use a high endurance card and change it every so often. They do wear out.

It is annoying how quickly some of the new SD cards wear out, even the high endurance ones, using older class 10 Kingston 32-64GB ones I get like 2+ years or so out of them, whereas some of the newer ones barely last months :(

I have a decent card and do check it every so often. By forget about it I mean it hasn't bothered me at all other than just to make sure it's ticking over nicely.

I got it (the whole set up) in 2019 and it's still going strong. I appreciate the consideration though. Maybe I'll look at a new card for it soon.

like any electronics sd cards don't like heat - apparently the blackvue 900 overheats too, so that's off my xmas list...
the heatwave will probably help.

I played about with the polarising filter on the 522GW and videos now look a lot better. I can make out opposite passing car plates but anything 20 or so feet in front of me is still hard to make out. Suppose I'm asking too much and this is the best it's gonna be.

I've been looking at this one as my budget is £150 and under.
Apparently any quality or stability issues look to be solved by lowering the quality to 1080p.

It's a bit crap, given that many people would have bought it for the higher res.
