Dashcams!

Anyone had to use their dashcam footage in an insurance case? Just wondering if they would just want the 1 file of the footage in question (20 sec clip) or if they would want the card itself.

Someone decided to hit my car in a staff only car park today and drove off without leaving any details. Their passenger thought it was funny though...

no but just send them the "incident" clip, why would they want the whole memory card? the rest of your driving is a bit irrelevant

A razor blade will do all of that in one action. Really, razor blades will clean any residue off glass so easily and leave it like new. Just wipe on some window cleaner to lubricate the area, and then slowly scrape it all right off using forward motions.

That's exactly what I thought, the lady on the phone last night suggested they would want the whole memory card although I explained I had just the clip showing the incident.

Still waiting for them to call me today (they said I would get a call this morning). I have a feeling this is going to be a whole load of hassle for something that should be fairly simple.

Nice clear video of the plate though...

How bad was the damage? The trouble with a ding is, is it really worth the added expense of claiming on insurance and paying increased premiums?

After cleaning the area, there is 1 big dent around the size of a tennis ball and a few other parts where you can see the bumper is no longer straight. Tried to clean the area up as much as possible but the paintwork is marked, I'm sure some can be taken out but the scratches will be an issue.

Now if the person had approached me and asked if we could settle this ourselves then I would have probably gone down that route.

The issue I have is the person hit the car, then drove off without leaving any contact information or contacting the site security/notifying the local police force. I don't see why people should get away with damaging other peoples properties and leaving them to pick up the mess.

Yes, quite recently when a car reversed into me at a set of lights and then drove off from the scene. They wanted me to upload the clip to Youtube and then email the link to them.

Luckily there was no damage at all to my car, but I informed them as the driver that revered into me could've gone to his insurance company and said I drove into the back of him.

They've now closed the "claim/incident" in my favour.

I've also got the forms in from the Police too now. They want the video clip on a USB stick as I also told them about the lads wreckless overtake that nearly caused a three car pile up prior to him reversing into me.

Not exactly. I parked very close to the car in front and it rolled back onto my car. I got a nasty note left on the windscreen. Fortunately my dashcam was working so I spoke to the insurance company and they asked me to send them a DVD of the footage.

just seen your clip homer, did you go straight to the police ? its a hit and run..

I have the forms etc that I need to fill in, just need to burn the video to a CD and will be handing it in this week.

Thanks for the info :)

I did have look at a few and decided on the DR650S as it looks sleek and you can hardly notice it installed in my car.

Tell us more dude! - what was the total cost for the system then? - I think theres an extra module that has to be purchased to get the parking bit working correctly? Got any pics of the install?

Would be awesome if you could stick some footage on here too bud, thanks.

Whilst I love the idea of being able to remote to the dashcam - I'm conscious I would need to 'tether' it to something like my phone, or a mifi-ish contraption which would then incur data charges. Very interesting concept though!

I paid about £200 all in for the DR650S 1CH and extra module for the parking mode. There are the 2CH versions for the front and back if needed.

There are deals to be had if you shop around.

The extra bit that you need for Parking Mode is called Power Magic Pro , which is a small box that you will need to hardwire into your cars fuse box.

You have option to get the cut off voltage , i.e i have set it to 12 Volts , you go to 11.8 if needed. Also you can get a timer for power to go off at a set time or you can leave it set to infinity , so it will stay on until it hits a certain voltage.

Ill try and upload some footage tonight. Also ill take some pics of the install , but you wont see much as it has been installed discretely and all the wires have been tucked away.

You can tether to a little Mifi unit when out and about you can set it to pick up your own home wifi when you are parked outside your home.

Whilst at home , you can dial in using VLC or a browser that can stream , to show you a live feed of the cam.

Let me know what more info you need about it ;)

Thats perfect dude, thanks.

I actually bought the F770 thinkware having had an F750 previously - but this model was the only other unit on my radar at the time. Would be great to see what it looks like once installed.
