cant play back the videos whilst im in the car as it needs to download a file (and I don't have data on my phone) Zoomee, do you know what this is so I can download it indoors? Thanks

On android its MX Player bud. It needs this app to be able to stream the vid direct to the phone

How is a dashcam a modification? There's only one insurer who will give a 10% discount for having one, the rest don't even care.

How many here declare their dashcam to their insurance company as it is technically a modification?

Ive told both my current and last imsurance companies that ive got a hardwired thinkware f7x0. Neither time was i told it was considered a modification, even when i insisted on a discount on the policies.

Are mobile phones handsfree kits declarable? Nope their not, this falls under the same modification status. Its an add-on NOT a change to an existing feature

Well if it's not factory spec by most insurers definition it's a modification.

It would certainly have a bearing on risk, a £250 camera sitting behind the windscreen could increase the likelihood of smash and grab incident occurring.

All of those links refer to satnavs, not dashcams?

I don't think a dashcam should cost £250 anyway, fair enough if it's two for front and back, with a host of features, and the quality exceeds cheaper ones like the Mini0806, but certainly not a single camera!

Considering a dashcam can be bought for as little as £20, I've not yet seen anyone report their hard wired dashcam being stolen.

There's more of a risk that someone would nick my car stereo than a silly dashcam that they have no idea about.

Good luck to anyone thinking of ripping the unit off my windscreen, removing all the hard-wired cables and then getting into the back to rip out the rear camera and half the roof lining to get the cable lol. If they did all that - hats off to them, they deserve it! :)

In all seriousness though - these thinkwares don't have a screen on them - most people can't even tell I have a dashcam in the car. Its only when it talks that their like - wtf is that! :)
Mount it correctly and they're hardly noticeable.

thieves don't car about the wires, they will not bother tearing that out, all they will do is, smash the window snip the wire, make of with the camera

thats the thing bud - they have to rip it off the windscreen without breaking it. My car stereo is easier to remove than the dashcam! (far more valuable too and I've been warned its a common target for thieves).

tbh - i'd be more concerned with the cost of fixing a broken window(along with the inconvenience) - it'll still cost more than my dashcam!

Anyone got opinions on the latest and best dashcams out there at the moment? It seems very much "Opinion Based" if that makes sense. Still edging towards the Koonlung K1S for quality from what I've seen on youtube.

Does everyone recommend a rear camera as well as a front one now?

Leaning towards the F770 given the latest reviews, but it's £100 more the K1S so a bit out of my budget.

I have the K1S and it works very well for me. My only issue with it is the lane detection doesn't cope very well with single-track roads, so you may find it bleeping if you leave it on.

Unlike the F770, the K1S is small and discreet.

It also takes 128 GB SD cards which is nice.

I do. :) Having a rear-facing camera helps with car park incidents.

Bought a Transcend 220 off Amazon a while back when it was on offer. Installed into my new leasemobile at the weekend. It's quite chunky but seems to work quite well in terms of transferring footage via wifi and the auto record seems to give me 3 second clips of when I close my door (think I need to turn the sensitivity down a little).

Here's a clip from my journey home last night, came across a little bump towards the end (other than that it's a very boring 3 minutes).

Thought I'd stick a request in here rather than create a new thread...

Spec me a dash cam!

Twice in three months I've had a trolley pushed into my car scratching it, combine this with a near miss from a kid on a bike flying over a level crossing and I'm feeling the urge to record whats happening, for my own peace of mind and to catch the ***** that keep scratching the car.

A few wants:

1. Fairly low profile, I'm not trying to hide anything but would rather it wasnt a huge unit taking up masses of screen/cockpit space.

2. Motion activated, really want to be able to catch the next person who thumps their trolley into it while loading little johnny into the car seat.

3. Wouldn't mind having a rear one too if thats possible from the same recording device.

4. High quality, not going to have one of these 240p jobbers you see on youtube where you can't even read the reg of the person thats hit you.

None of these are set in stone, I'm just after something that ticks some if not all of the boxes.

Cheers in advance!
