Dashcams!

Has anyone gotten around the issue of downloading videos to your phone via the nextbase app?

My 422GW just spins endlessly trying to connect to the camera which renders it pointless because I have no other of accessing them other than my phone

It was the same on my previous phone

Can you not use an SD card reader and plug that into your phone? I've got a USB-C micro SD card reader which if I need to, can be used to pull stuff from my dashcam.

You know what I didn't even realise they existed in terms of using one with a phone, still annoying that it can't be used as advertised but saves me buying another dashcam so thanks

Just ordered the Redtiger F17 Elite and hardwire kit ready for next week. Will get a bigger SD card when there is an offer on a decent brand 512gb.

Just got a new car and wanting to stick a dashcam in, was using a cheapo Amazon one in the old car. So after something decent in this one, was thinking about one with interior view as be good watching the child and recording if anyone breaks in to it, but in reality not sure how good/useful it would be.

Was looking at Nextbase as you can get the interior plug-in for them and can get it fitted (not sure how good Halfords are at installation in EV’s), also seen this one as well https://amzn.eu/d/3E5DqKU but every time I get one off Amazon I never get round to fitting them, but seems decent for the price.

Any other recommendations? And are Nextbase cams as hit and miss as they seem to be?

With Dashcams, it’s imperative you actually capture the details of any cars in an incident.

I haven’t seen anything better than what Viofo offer: https://viofouk.co.uk/

I've no previous experience with Dashcams, but the Viofo I fitted earlier in this thread does a great job at capturing details on the road, even when set at 30fps.

Playback may not look as smooth in motion, but when paused or frame by frame, it's superb at number plate and road sign detail.

I believe 30fps is better than 60 because the sensor has chance to let more light and detail in, from what I've read :)

I did look at Viofo for a 3 channel system but the prices have gone up with the new (impressive spec) models.

The Redtiger F17 Elite looked like a good balance for £225. 4k front, 2.5k (QHD?) rear and 1080 internal. Viofo and Redtiger cams always have very clear footage in YT compilations.

Can anyone recommend mobile dash cam fitting in Manchester? Got a new car (not brand new) but don’t want to bust the interior fitting myself

Edit: already have the cam

Turns out VW do not provide any fuse box layout info in the manual or on the panel cases. Can't find any definitive info on specialist forums either but luckily I didn't open the hardwire kit, so Amazon have accepted a return at full value.

Also found that the OBD port is not covered and easily accessed on the left side of the driver's footwell, so I will order the OBD kit when the credit hits my Amazon account. I would have gone for that in the first place if I knew .

I did order a 15cm USB-C cable with right angle and side on sockets, so I have a usable backup cable for the headliner socket.

My wife had a hospital appointment so while I was waiting I ran the rear cam cable. It is visible in a few not too obvious place but nothing that bothers me and it is easy to remove if necessary.

There are small slots in the overhead storage bins, so I pushed the cable up through that, wouldn't go the other way l, so had to feed most of 18ft through. I left enough to go around the sun-visor catch and along the central mirror/sensor casing to the camera.

It was then easy to push it under the head liner trim, behind the shelf bracket, around the B-pillar (visible but there is a curtain, so not too bad) and then along the rest of the headliner seam to the rear.

There are a few places where there liner is firmly attached to the bulkhead, so the cable has to loop under but as the liner is dark-grey it is okay. The hoist and control handset is stored on that side and they draw the eye anyway.

I bought a cheap multi head camera suction mount from Amazon and snipped the lugs off of a flat plate adaptor, then stuck the camera onto that. It gives me a way of allowing more rotation to overcome the horizontal curve of the window. The added bonus is I can easily remove it if I need to open the door more than 90 degrees or the weather is a bit wet when getting my son in.

I don’t have time to trawl through this thread but could somebody recommend me a dashcam

Looking for front and back, motion activated when parked , pretty clear footage , hardwired

There maybe a few other things I haven’t thought of yet

Looking to spend a couple of hundred pounds if needed

I bought the Red Tiger F77 for our new Santa Fe and it's been superb. Only gripe was the thickness of the cables, which made tucking them behind trim a bit of a challenge. Hardwire kit was very simple to install.
I also added a 512Gb sdxc card to boost storage.

The Redtiger ODB2 cable is a great option if you don't want to mess with fuses. Only downside is the same chunky cable before the control switch, it is flat on the OBD port side.

I just need to motivate myself to feed it down through the steering wheel cavity, it will look nicer and the control box can sit it my dash accessory tray inside of barely staying stuck near my right knee .

Thought I'd lost the Netbase 522GW with fitted rear cam (works really well on Android) and ordered the GKU 4K Dash Cam Front and Rear, 5GHz WiFi Dashcam and fitted.

Found the front cam, compared to the 522GW to be slightly tank, but the rear cam is bang on and will be set up soon with the 522GW I found buried in a bag I used on a recent overnighter in London leading front duties and the GKU doing the rear work.
