Dawn of War II Beta Thread

Been reading up on the community forums, seems several other people have had the crashing after a few mins of play with no video signal. Was actually looking at new graphics cards for a while! Hopefully be fixed in the day 0 patch then.

Well thats exactly what the patch is for, lets hope they are able to get as many bugs as possible within the next couple of weeks.

Feedback in this demo (from this thread at least) doesnt sound too good :( Since its already gold theres no chance of any major changes which is a bit grrrrr
Will have to try it regardless but completely removing basebuilding... :(

Still on the fence about buying this. Read the PC Gamer UK review and they say it's got a load of repetitive identikit missions between the story ones in single-player, exactly like the DoW1 expansion packs.

Perhaps it's best to wait 6 months, buy the game cheap, then use the saved money buying all the game-boosting DLC?

Is this chargable DLC confirmed somewhere? if true I'm staying well clear... they should get games right first time not take this pi$$ like that

"As for post-launch plans, we are extremely interested in working with Microsoft to offer several types of free and premium downloadable content through their Games for Windows - LIVE Marketplace. In fact, there may even be some DLC available during the first few weeks after the game’s released if everything goes to plan."

I downloaded this last night and it seems ok but I can't seem to get into it like I did with the original Dawn Of War :(

The feel of the game is so much different, I'm hoping it might get better over time but am a bit dissapointed atm

I'm hoping this premium content is just things like flags, paint, SP wargear ect. Try to leave as much MP content that adds some decent content to the free section. Knowing Microsoft though they will be thinking the other way around.

Is it me or does this feel like a dumbed down version of the first Dawn of War game?

I like it a lot though, just not as much as the first. One thing I do like is the small armies, I hate RTS games that are won by spamming units.

Much prefer the original series. The lack of base building and what seems like high micro-management doesn't work for me. I can't get into CoH and this feels just like it.

I'm not one for winning by strategy. The brute force assault is my preferred style of play (Read: mammoth tank spam on C&C, anything on SupCom)

Im struggling to get on with this game, for me its too slow when building units, I only played the computer, but i owned the entre map and could still only build a tactical squad every couple of minutes, I spent most of the game waiting for to have nough units to attack with.

Also, is anyone else having performance bother with it? Sure my laptop isnt over brilliant, but it can run COD5 on basic settings, so I expected it to have no bother with this, yet its running at maybe 15FPS.

That's how I feel about it atm :(

I bought CoH because everyone was raving about it and never really got into it :(

ditto

It feels like there's a good game there, but i was expecting DOW, not a reskined COH. Pretty shoddy to be honest given the time it's taken to come out.

I *think* it's the points thing that gets me most, watching your opponents points count toward zero is pretty mundane compared to ripping up bits of their base. Plus, the base building bit was fun.
