DC Vault

I've been messing about with PSP today. It turns out it is quite a bit quicker on linux.

On a 3570k@4GHz...

Windows 7: 13.6ms per bit using 64bit llr
Ubuntu 12.04 under vmware: 9.2ms per bit

I couldn't remember before what errors i was getting under linux, anyway I tried it now and I get pushd & popd not found, this is after I do the command: sh 4-quad-start-prpclient.sh ... did you ever get that?

I'm obviously doing something wrong, when I use ./ they don't start, see below, I'll have to have a play sometime.

Code:
jon@jon-i5gene:~/DcVault/prpclient-5.2.2-linux_64$ ./4-quad-start-prpclient.sh
~/DcVault/prpclient-5.2.2-linux_64/prpclient-1 ~/DcVault/prpclient-5.2.2-linux_64

hmm, well it looks like none of my linux work has been given any credit :/

Someone teamless called "ClientID" has been dropping points the last couple of days, Check your prpclient.ini in one of the work folders and see if it says: userid=ClientID, it should be userid=Phil ..obvioulsy :)

BTW don't know if you are aware of this handy app for windows It gets rid of all the individual cmd windows on your desktop.

It looks pretty certain that Asteroids@home will be added to the vault, we're currently in 60th position there.

QMC is due to be removed, a seven day inactivity deadline was issued and has passed, if it does get removed we will gain around 300pts on seti.Germany in 12th, but loose around a 1000pts to EVGA in 14th, they'll then be right on our heels, they've been knocking out some impressive production recently.

I think PSP is probably the key project atm. EVGA are very close behind us there and overtaking us will give them enough points to pass us in the Vault.

I agree, though I think we need some quick short term gains as well if possible. The way things are going the PSP position will be immaterial as far as vault position goes, TBH there might not be much we can do about it but I know we won't go down without a fight!

I've decidied to go on Docking and GIMPs as well as dabbling in PSP, though my 3770K has gone down :( work up this morning to find it dead.

I'm pleased to say it's working again :), my 3 amp fuse had blown too (max of 400W for me), though I changed it and it blew again. I think something was shorting somewhere, possibly at the back of my 700d, I have the back off atm, it was pretty cramped backed there.

I'm also having a bad time with some RAM I bought, I've been doing the lattice project and the current WUs use 8.7 gigs per thread  lol, so I bought 32gigs of 2400mhz, cost me a bomb, two sticks keep failing, unfortunately I bought it off a large retailer with one of the worst reputations for customer service, raised an RMA on Fri .. no reply so far, that'll teach me.

That sucks.

Not sure how we can keep our place in the Vault looking at current stats. Most of our lowest scores are very slow gains and the quick gains are very small points.

Were about a week or so from moving up in OGR-27. I will stick at that for now but after the next couple of places we are looking at months rather than weeks at my current rate. That doesnt take into account some fast movers comming up behind.

I've switched a rig over and joined you. I'll give it 24Hrs and see if it's worth continuing.

*edit*
Hmm I'm doing around 0.5 Gnodes/sec on my 3770K, which I think if my maths is right will equate to 43,200 Gnodes/day .. not great :(

Next team to Stomp on OGR-27 ?

229 The Pirate Fleet 925 4,724,707 0
230 OcUK - Overclockers UK 1,453 4,685,283 39,650

:D

...and on GIMPS (page 3) :)

Nice to see us move up a spot on the vault, that took a long time, next one not far away, though when Asteroids@home is added, seti.Germany would overtake us again, unless QMC gets removed, but then EVGA will be right with us :).... we'll just have to see how it pans out.

10th is going to be very difficult, so is hanging on to 11th TBH,

We're going to be dumped to 14th soon :(

QMC has been removed, and Asteroids@home introduction is imminent. I've got my abacus out and have worked out that Asteroids will be worth 31.15 pts per position, we're in 57th ... SetiG, EVGA and Anantech are in 6th, 29th and 46th respectively. Asteroids will give us 8255 vault pts making it our worst scoring boinc vault project so definitely one to go for.

Just CPU, runs on windows and linux, It's been running quite smoothly on my windows machine, run time per WU for my moderately overclocked 3570K is around 1.15mins, I'd guess a couple of hours for a 3770k hyperthreaded, though the time does vary between WUs and each completed WU is worth a flat 120pts.

.. and they have badges too, that rock with the C on it that's in my sig is one :)

We've dropped 3 places because Engima@home has been added back to the vault, we haven't been able to crunch that project in the past because it never had any work, hence why it was removed and why we are ranked so low.

@Boycie, welcome aboard, and thanks, for now I'd say go for Engima@home as it's now our worst scoring vault project.

Here's a list of all the projects, with our lowest scorest ones at the top, the ones with the little black and orange chip icon are CPU, but if they have a nvidia or Ati icon as well generally that project will be more productive using a GPU, and some of them are non boinc (those without the boinc icon)

On a plus not i have done 8 WUs on my phone so far for Enigma. If you dont have NativeBoinc installed on your android then your a slacker ;-)

Cool, I'll have to give it a go, I'll give you a shout if I get stuck :)

According to this : http://www.dc-vault.com/showteam.php?team=57 we are somewhat slacking for World Community Grid

But is the right OcUK team listed?

There are potentially three OcUK type teams : http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/t...&searchValue=OcUK&typeFilter=0&countryFilter=

If the incorrect team is listed, how can it be changed, and just as importantly, those crunching in the wrong team need to change.

The wrong team is listed on our Vault page (OCUK) but even though it's inactive, it is currently ranked higher than our active one "OcUK Overclockers UK" but not by much, OCUK are in 1170, OcUK - Overclockers UK are in 1205, as soon as we overtake ourselves  The vault server should pick this up, and then list the correct one.

We are doing well on Enigma now. currently 19th on RAC (probably 12th if we keep it up). There are still plenty of places to make up but the question is how far its worth pursuing before switching to something else?

I suppose when we give a lot of effort for very little gain, but as you said there are still plenty of places to make up.

Could probably use some help on OGR-27 we are close to moving up a few places but we got knocked back by a fast mover.

I issued an Asteroids challenge at Boinc stats, that starts in 10 days so I'll be switching over to do that, after it's finished I'll join you, and I should have another 3770k by then all being well

Ahh, will have to jump in on that too. Will drop everything else for a bit. Lets just hope they add it to the Vault soon too.

Great stuff, hopefully we can get a few more to join in.

Flash Git :-p

:) I was going to upgrade to a 3770K and put my 3570K in the MM, the hyperthreading makes a big difference on some projects, but then realised I had everything to make another rig apart from the board, so I thought what hell, why not.

Might need to work harder so i can justify getting a few more Boxes in our DC. Don't like using my own power but if its Company money then its OK by me :-)

Yeah I don't like using my own power either :D
Good thing about these Ivydridge machines tho' is that they are very economical. I set mine at stock voltages and OC them far as I can, 4.2Ghz for the 3570k and 4.1 for the 3770K, they both use between 100 -130W depending on the project, which costs me less than £10 per box, per month, running 24/7 ... of course it adds when you have several, and graphic cards to boot, but I *try* to keep at all around £30 a month.
