DC Vault

Eon and Docking have been removed hence the jump to 9th :)
It's a start to the shake up, positions will change dramatically when the other proposed projects are added/removed. There's going to be a public announcement of the proposed changes where everyone can voice there opinions.

Are these just the proposed new ones or are the more ?

Constellation
DistRTgen
Distributed Data Mining
Ibercivis
Numberfields
PrimaBoinca

It's currently looking like this...

Add
Constellation - Physical Sciences
PrimaBoinca – Mathematics
DistrRTgen – Miscellaneous
Numberfields – Mathematics
Distributed Data Mining - Miscellaneous.
OGR-28 – Maths
NRG@Home

On The Fence
WUProp - Miscellaneous.
MindModeling – Bio
Ibercivis - Miscellaneous (No work?)
Climate@Home

NRG currently has no work, something which I have mentioned, same goes for all of the on the fence projects apart from WUProp. I noticed you've been doing a bit on mindmodeling, don't know if you have anything good or bad to say about it?

When a new project moves into the Vault are the existing points already accrued ignored as far as the Vault is concerned, ie there is no point in trying to get work done before it goes in ?

Vault converts project position into vault points so any points acquired before being added will count.

You gained us a point in Formula Boinc (league 2) for mindmodeling :) it's not a competition that we seen to actively discuss here but I like to keep an eye on our progress.

Updated Vault shakeup now looks like this:

Remove
ABC
RNA
LHC
The Lattice Project
PSP

Add
Constellation - Physical Sciences
PrimaBoinca – Mathematics
Numberfields – Mathematics
Distributed Data Mining - Miscellaneous.
OGR-28 – Maths
NRG@Home
MindModeling – Bio

On The Fence / Not Yet
Climate@Home
WUProp - Miscellaneous.
DistrRTgen – Miscellaneous

Nooo they shouldn't remove LHC :( Their work may be inconsistently available, but it remains an active project. Indeed I can see credits for many of our team in the last week and month.

Many smaller projects do a bit of research, then need time to evaluate that. I much prefer that concept than projects just churning stuff over and over. You know what is being done has merit. Boinc was designed as a platform that could allow computer resources to re-allocate depending on the work available.

I'll pass this on MGP

The add/removals has begun, additions so far

Constellation
PrimaBoinca
Numberfields

We are waiting on mindmodeling to allow access to it's stats server and there are currently "technical issues" ATM with OGR-28

Removals

LHC@Home
The Lattice Project
ABC@Home
Prime Sierpinski Problem

Climate & RNA should be removed in the next stats run also.

We are now currently 12th, down from 9th but with the other additions & removals to come that may change again.

The project itself will be fine, many big teams like seti.usa, Czech national team, alliance francophone, to name but a few, pay no attention to the vault.

I'm having a go myself on primaboinca, I'll give these other new projects more attention next week after the POGs challenge.

...also I've decided I need the no.1 spot on Einstein to add to my portfolio of OcUK no.1 spots :D so I'll be hitting that soon.

There was a lot of low hanging fruit to be picked :D

Lots of teams with not many points more than us so easy to do a lot of team overtakes and get the Vault points, it was the same with our primaboinca position. Your comment on our expected points for these projects in the other thread prompted me to look and see what could be had for the least effort.

Never the less your output is impressive, I tried to be nosey and see what you've got but you have all your machines hidden :p

If you want more cores a little trick I've found is that if you click on the logo at the top of the forum it takes you to a site where you can order bags of haribo and they send you free bits of computery stuff :D
Sadly the haribo don't last long so you have to keep ordering more :(

Haha, I'm happy with the amount of cores I have at the moment, I've no more room for any other machines anyway, though I will be looking at the new 8 core haswell-e when it comes out  but will probably look away when I see the price.

Out of interest, when do you think you will achieve you Einstein ambition ?

Hopefully by the next world cup :D I *was* thinking around 3-4 months, but I seem to have been a little optimistic. I calculated my 7970 would do 110,000 ppd and I have 2 x 290s and 2 x 7950s but I've since learnt the 290s don't perform that well on Einstein, the GPU usuage is up and down like a fiddler's elbow even with several threads, something to do with something being limited, on the 7970 it's steady as a rock, don't know how the 7950s will perform yet. Think I'll have to treat that goal as a marathon rather than a sprint.

It might have helped if I had said it was my Free-dc trophy cabinet. Anyway I found the answer to my question...

The MM badges are for how many MM categories you have an entry in. So if you are on the 10K, 25K, 50K, 100K and 500K MM's you'd be in 5 categories and would earn the bronze badge. More categories gets you higher badges

MM being for Mega Milestones. So that explains why hanluc has a green (emerald) M&M but now means I have to go and find out what a Clank is for !

Miss your post somehow, though I didn't know the answer anyway :) I see now we both have gold MMs, have you a link explaining it? I like badges though I have to keep trimming the ones in my sig due the size rules :(

Been testing my 7950s on Einstein, woeful in comparison to the 7970, so far I've determined:

R290: GPU usage is erratic, no matter how many threads are applied and I am now getting validation errors, that is my results are not matching other users.

7970: two threads gives me 95% GPU usuage, 3 threads 96% with this setting I can complete 3 Perseus Arm Survey tasks for 3,333 credits each in just over two hours.

7950: two threads gives me 99% GPU usage but the run time is over 10 times slower than the 7970, 24 hrs completion time running the same 3 threads on Perseus Arm Survey tasks.

It seems that the only AMD card worth running on Einstein is the 7970/280x, I've not tried any Nvidia cards, I have a couple of 570s but I doubt they'd be much cop.

Firstly, apologies to Coleslaw, the last time I looked/replied I didn't see either of your posts about the MM button and categories. So either I need to see an optician or they magically appeared some time after I last posted

Coleslaw PM'd me over at the vault forums saying that he replied to you and his posts didn't show up here, he posted what he said to me but I didn't pass it on to you because in the mean time the link you gave me had the same info.

I was only using nVidia cards for Einstein and not AMD ones, didn't really take much notice of their relative performance. I just let them run and the points only seem to roll in once you start building up a big head of steam of completed units awaiting validation. I've stopped for the moment, going to let you catch up a bit :p Are you still aiming for the next World Cup or the one after that now ? :p:p

I'll be king before the next world cup mark my words :) unless you have something to say about it :p I've been testing the water, trying different work units, on linux and on the CPU, I'm going to go for it after I've finished on SoB, which will be when we as a team get to around pos 30 I think, there's a big leap to 31st if I remember right (stats are down at freedc atm so not 100% sure) the card I'm going to use is in the same machine as the SoB one and when running einstein it effects SoB performance.

.. and I'll be downing tools on Fri for a week or so, off on me hols

EDIT now that the stats are up I see it's pos 37 -38 that has the big gap, around 1.9p.

Well that's going to take a few weeks to get back to position 10 if we have to do it the hard way

I don't think the fault is at the Vault !
I'm a poet and I didn't even know it :D

Team scoring for OGR-28 is pivoting at team 41 so teams are being awarded points of 243.90 per position above and -243.90 per position below the pivot. The OGR-28 score is shown as 0.000000 but I think that is what is being displayed only, it isn't meant to handle negative numbers. Our actual score is about -66,585 which is what has dragged us down 49 places in the table :eek::eek:

Our team table shows us as having 83,453...
83,453 - 66,585 = 16,868 the value shown in the overall table

66,585 /243.90 = 273, add 41 gives 314 which is just 1 below our team position of 315. I'm assuming there is a -1 factor to put into the calculation.

Whilst on OGR-28, it is the worst project I have come across for setting up and working out how to get started. I'm guessing it is based on a really old system and they haven't got round to making it more user-friendly

Well spotted on the negative score, I've been posting in the DC Vault forums about the problems and didn't click that's why we have such a bad score.

Do you need any help setting up OGR? I think there's a guide buried in this thread somewhere.

Hanluc is back yah,, I see movement !! :)

I hadn't gone anywhere ;) I didn't get enthused about the pogs challenge, too soon from the last one but I've been doing other projects.

I've noticed your haswell run times are much quicker than my Ivy bridge, unless yours is at 5ghz or something. I used to have 32 gigs of ram in this machine, but took 16 gigs out as I though it was an overkill, but can I find where I've put them!?

I found my other 16 gigs, I'm now running 8 tasks with 32 gigs, though memory usage is only showing 25% and CPU usage is all over the place, fluctuating between 10-60%.

EDIT: memory up to 46%, cpu 10% ?

EDIT2: memory now 63% cpu 90+%, so I'm using 20 gigs of ram which seems spot on if it's 2.5 gigs per task, but I don't know why it takes so long for my cpu to kick in, but it explains the long overall run times compared to the cpu run times.

9th is doable, I going to stick on numberfields until we get to around the 9000 pt mark. Currently though my OGR rig is down, the PCIe PSU cable is burnt out and my board doesn't have the facility to utilise the igpu in my cpu, so I'm going to need either a new PSU or a non external powered gpu.
