DC2 Type R owners please :)

Best off asking on itr-dc2 mate maybe?

I would guess providing it's been looking after properly and everything is documented full receipts etc it shouldn't be a problem. These cars are 12 years old at best, 130k is just over 10k a year...hardly a lot :)

It shouldn't be a problem if its been owned by an enthusiast thats kept up with the maintenance. I drive a 20 year old 300zx with appx 80k miles on the clock and yes i've had to spend money on it mainly on the perishible items such as water hoses and suspension bushes and the like, its now as reliable as any car thats had some tlc.

If you get a well cherished example with some history you'll be grinning ear to ear down the back roads.

I'm currently trying to debate whether I've found the right one or not.

£4500 with new discs and pads all round, new braided lines, all new bushes, new clutch, and fully refurbished seats (sent away, stripped, rebolstered presumably, cleaned and reassembled. Only trouble is, it has 130K on the clock - not a problem for me, as this seems like the best example from the descriptions I've read, but may pose a problem when I come to sell it after putting 10K on the clock.

I wouldn't worry too much about the mileage, although as you say reselling may be a little trickier. How long would you be looking to keep it?
At 130k I would expect the gearbox to have been refurb'd as the ol' input shaft bearing is probably on it's last legs.
Just go drive it and make your own mind up.
I drove two supposed 'excellent' condition cars with circa 80k - they were worlds apart when driving them!

130k miles shouldn't be too much of a problem if its been looked after. I'd be asking how much oil the engine uses though. I've seen a few B18's that kick out plumes of blue smoke when lifting off the throttle - stem seals I'm presuming.

He claims no oil use, no smoke, no gear crunches either cold or hot. It sounds like the perfect car.

I've managed to get him down from £4,750 to £4,250 before even viewing it :)

many sellers claim this, in reality, few are actually that sound. check for rust, if its a UK that hasnt been treated, check the usual places thoroughly on viewing. especially on that mileage.

that alone would raise alarms. £500 drop before even viewing, a tad odd...

No oil use is probably BS too. I tested it, didn't take the car over 8k rpm for a week and it didn't burn a drop. It burns approx 1ltr to a 1k when driven how it's supposed to be driven.

mine is redlined daily but not a drop used :) twas one of the main points which attracted me to it, owner made a big point of this when viewing and rightly so, so would i. turned out he wasnt lying after a few months down the line in my ownership.

although as i understand it, this is quite a rarity on this lump.

mike..

suspension bushes
rear arch rust
gearbox
oil usage

^these are things most likely to need work..

check that they've done frequent oil changes, guy I bought mine from did them at every 2000 miles! I think Honda recommend 3000-5000 miles

AHHHH, i've arranged to go view a 98spec tomorrow, seems to be a few up for sale up my way so i'm going to have a good look around. This teg talk has made me realise how much i miss mine, the s2k/350z idea is on hold.

But the thing is, cars age. These are all what, 12-16 years old now. It wont be how you remember it. Things get loose with age, the shine starts to depart, the rust appears - they are pretty much just old cars these days. They were once stunning but now they are particularly cheap and particularly old the number of genuinely nice examples is tiny, and even the nice ones won't feel as tight and uptogther as yours did when you had it presumably when it was much younger.

The Teg is probably best left as a memory and your 350Z plans should be resurrected.

Lovely cars but, as said above they are getting a bit long in the tooth. I have very fond memories of Renault 5 GT Turbos and Escort RS Turbo's but, i would not want one now as a everyday car despite loving them when i owned them.

This is the real shame with things like DC2's

If I had the space and money, I'd get a JDM 98 Spec in a heartbeat. But... I'd want one totally original, absolutely full service history, kept in a garage used on dry days, ideally low owner numbers and low miles...

Why? Because if not within my ownership it would eventually just fall apart. My s2000 is 10 years old and 80,000 miles... It's starting to show its age now which means I'm going to have to start investing in it to put things right now whilst its still manageable

many many looked after examples on the owners club.

if you genuinally want a good 'un, just sign up and one will pop up in no time.

theres a reason so many owners return shortly after leaving the fold. they are worth investing in.

Some 98 specs are only 9 years old, the same age as your car. New shocks and springs and bushes aren't mega expensive anyway.

Other than it being newer, what does a 350z have to offer over an Integra? Aren't they really heavy and boaty, the exact opposite of an Integra.

But a DC2 would have led a much different life to other cars & as such the critical parts that make it special will not be as fit as it once was. I'd be suprised if even the finest low mileage example has escaped the march of time.
Provided you can replace suspension components & tyres with similar spec to the original at least you can still enjoy much of the magic that made the Teggy so special.

A lot of Integras are fitted with aftermarket suspension which are considered better than the stock parts, but you can still buy the OE parts from Honda, and the original Bridgestone Potenza RE010's are still available AFAIK.

You only really see old UKDM's with rust. Most JDM's are undersealed when they come over.

That's exactly what I've been thinking, I wouldn't say they are bloaty they handle quite nicely but obviously more of a gt cruiser, but is it really going to offer any more fun for an extra 5k over an integra?
