Do you mind me asking who you're insured with, taken up on the ITR-OC discount with Sky and Adrian?

i'm insured with Admiral

just out of interest, what is this ITR-OC? do you mean itr-dc2.com? if not have you got a link to a website?

Im with bell. 500 quid @ 24, 2 yr ncb. Will change to sky at renewal though due to them not minding pretty much any modification (although bell dont seem to care either but wont replace any mods that get damaged in the event of a crash wheras sky will replace like for like).

i'm insured with Sky. they weren't the cheapest, but Luke there was massively helpful to me, took a genuine interest in the car and what I had been doing to it and he also knew exactly what he was talking about when I was explaining my mods, took the pain out of a normally arduous task. still the wrong side of a grand though :(

Plus, they said I could have a cage if I wanted one :D

Be cheap to run on parts, but ab it steep to purchase in the first place, what were they £20k new, now 11 years down the line they are still asking 25% of the new cost, not many other cars command such a price premium/fan boy tax.

Thats the joy of Hondas.

You sell at not much loss and then move upwards, still means its cheap to run.

Scene tax works boths ways you know.

Yeah that's the thing I'd probably get the modding bug and I'd probably crash, so I'd rather be above board with a proper insurer

Yeah same one, sorry force of haibt

Keep an eye on engine movement - mine had 60k on the clock, 2 mounts were totally gone and 1 was cracked out of the 5. Cost me £250 for 5 Spoon mounts, and about £200 to fit.

Personally I'd have stuck with standard mounts, Spoon ones were far too harsh :(

Other than the gearbox crunching, watch out for failing thrust bearings - IIRC it makes a "whirring" noise when the clutch if fully depressed. Quite a common issue, but costs a fair bit to fix.

Great cars, owned mine for 2 years...

Really? My Spoon mounts are almost identical to Honda ones, just a lot cheaper. IIRC the only difference we noticed was the mount near the cambelt was solid on the Spoon one, whereas the Honda one was oil filled.

oh and you'll be lucky to find a teg that doesn't have the 2nd to 3rd crunch:(

Getting on a bit now, I would rather not be paying for arch replacement or bodywork on a car.

OP:

Look for a better car you dont want to buy it and then end up paying for the previous owners fun with it replacing parts/finding out the engines knackered.

I test drove 3 before buying mine ranging from 60k'er to a 90k'er, and none of them had crunches. :o

My insurance is £620 with Bell, I'm 24 but only have 2 years NCB. (no mods, totally standard UK car)!

does the bonnet panel gap in pic 1 not worry anyone?

i travelled down to congleton from oldham to view a car and it had had a 1/4 respray:/

Its not a gap, its a black rubber "seal" that runs along the front edge.

And my Spoon mounts were really stiff - used to make the entire dash rattle! :p I was told before hand they were about 25% stiffer than standard, I also had the option of the Mugen ones which were about 35% stiffer.

Like you, I had them as they were about £150 cheaper than Honda ones...which I'd have paid the extra...

Yeah i think you are right there with the early 96 JDM cars and the anything pre 2000 UK. My teg was just starting at the very edge as the spot welded twin skin arch isnt really the best for keeping rust away.

A recent 98 spec will still be great for years though.

ITRs like S2000s are very sensitive to tyres.

Mine was ruined on Toyo T1Rs. Bridgestone R050As felt like the anti roll bars had been upgraded and they also made it actually feel like it was connected to the road
