Hello!

I'm currently running 16gb of DDR4

And I'm looking to whack in another 16gb.

Is it worth scrapping the 16 I've currently got and buy 2x16gb, or should I just buy another 2x8 and have 4x8 in total?
Do they also need to be the same brand/speeds for efficiency? If anyone has any recommendations that'd be ideal!

Thanks!

Different memory usually work together but the motherboard will default the memory to run at the slower speed and settings if any diffrence .

Running 4 sticks of memory can be a problem but you won't no till you try. Memory is cheap for 32gb (£80 ) so I would be tempted to go for 2 sticks and sell your 8 pack stuff .

Great stuff thank you - any speed recommendations I should be going for? Last time I bought any was in 2018 haha

3200mhz same speed as what you have.

This is great for the price.

Or if you prefer black

Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 32GB 3200MHz

I'd be tempted to go from 4 x 8gb to 2 x 16gb - I have 2 sets of 2x8gb Patriot Viper 4000mhz - Can get 2 x 8gb sticks on their own down to 4000mhz C15 with very good sub timings - but with 4 sticks in I cant post above 3666mhz (although i've tweaked the timings to compensate for it (but still done like not being able to post at the rated speeds / timings no matter what the voltages / settings are)

12600k 16gb 3600mhz cl16 I believe.

in that case you would be fine with the Tforce, intel is not a dependent on ram speed as AMD its also not a fussy on sticks..
personlly you should always aim for 3600mhz plus no matter what cpu you have, for £20 more you can get this corsair stuff

you should just to be 100% look at the MoBo ram support list, forget the brands it shows but look at stick size and speeds just so you know you board is good with XXsize sticks at XXXXMhz

Can i ask tight timings or speed, ive also got the 3200 cl14 that ops got but I'm looking at the 3600 cl18 for a 5800x3d

if you asking what's better....
same same.

But the ram you have got with a voltage bump should run faster at XMP timings, its good overclocking ram

the amount of ram means nothing until your needs pass the amount you have....
with intel 3600Mhz cl18 would be faster for games but the difference been little to nothing in most games.

BUT...
That said you have an AMD chip and a fast gaming chip at that, and AMD needs fast Mhz ram...
what board do you have? with a b550 or better you can go upto 4200mhz
with b450 or lower you tend to be caped at 3600mhz, i managed 3800mhz on my 5600

with AMD more Mhz is better, if you game its a must.
if your 5800x3d is in a x570 board buying 3200mhz ram is stupid as jumping to 4000mhz would give a big real world difference.

if you have your 5800x3d is a b450 board... i would stick with what you have 16Gb @3200 cl14, the cost of buying new to only increase by 400mhz, there would be a difference, it would not be massive.
if i was on a fixed budgit and spending £100 on 32gb of 3600mhz ram to game. i would spend the £100 on 16gb of 4000mhz ram motherboard support dependent

Ram and AMD is very hard.

The bigger the stick 8gb/16gb/32gb the slower the speed tends to be.
So it's ok me saying buy 32gb of 4200mhz but you can only get it sable at 3200mhz then you would be calling me ever nob under the sun..

Look at the 5800xed because of the The 3d cache its not a ram speed dependent as most amd cpus. Going from 3200mhz to 4200mhz gave 10% extra fps in games.

Your motherboard said.
  1. Support for DDR4 4400(O.C.) / 4266(O.C.) / 4133(O.C.) / 4000(O.C.) / 3866(O.C.) / 3733(O.C.) / 3600(O.C.) / 3466(O.C) / 3400(O.C.) / 3200(O.C.) / 2933 / 2667 / 2400 / 2133 MHz
If your buying 16gb I would aim for 4200mhz
32gb be happy if you can get 3600mhz
64gb pray for 3200mhz.

Hi, I'm also thinking of going from 16 to 32GB. I'm running Team group 8pack 3600 at the moment with 5800x3d and Asrick Taichi x570 board. What would be the recommended upgrade? I was thinking of 4000 Ram, or would I be best to stick with 3600?
