DDR4 - 16 to 32gb

I just went from 16GB to 32GB because at peak times (games) it would feela bit laggy / stuttery. So far all good, well worth it considering the amount of time i spend on the PC and it was only £44 to add another 16GB

"Upgraded" memory this week and now stuck at 3266 won't post any higher, tightened timings best I can but that's all this POS x570 Asus board / 3900x will do with 32GB

AMD and memory is just a pain, another reason to ditch AMD imo.

5600 / B550 / 32gb Kingstone Beast at 3888mhz

what is the ram you have? like the full model info.
AMD as a problem with TRC timing been low. thats who ram made for ryzen always as loose timings

also you said the ram was for 5800x3d but you using a 3900x
the 5XXX chips have better controllers

I never mentioned the 5800x3d.

Full model? CMK32GX4M2D3600C16 with Asus Strix X570-F Gaming.

i was thinking of i different post, the 3XXX's chips just struggle with ram and the more the slower it gets, my 3600 would not run stable at anything passed 3000mhz with 32gb and that was premium ram.
the kit you just got is budget ram.. on a 5XXX chip it would run XMP no problem

No worries, considering the 58003D but will probably hold out longer, CPUs should last for years, we shouldn't be upgrading them every two / three years. I've used CPUs in the past for five years or more with no performance issues, and even then I could kept them for longer in hindsight.

We'll see, not enough reason to upgrade yet, and no the extra memory really hasn't helped. Users BSing about memory usage in games as expected.

Oh no, 16GB is the minimum for sure, highest I've seen in any game I've tested is 10GB so far, which is bordering on what is available with 16GB + Windows 11.

what a system uses is not the minimum spec.. most games still state 8gb minimum but 16gb recommended.
if you have 8 its fine but if you have more the system will utilize it

16gb is what's needed right now. but if you want your PC to see 5 years out 32 is not a bad thing to have.

Could be a weak imc could be a crappy ram kit hard to say, currently running my 3800xt with a weird ram setup 48gb 1x8gb + 1x16gb / 1x8gb + 1x16gb @ 3600mhz c16 did have to nudge up the soc voltage to 1.065v

I never had issues until playing rust with a few programs open in the background (discord, chrome taking up many GBs, medal). Get close to that 16GB mark and you'll know it.

32GB is the new minimum.........and I try to put off purchases like this

Hi, I'm also thinking of going from 16 to 32GB. I'm running Team group 8pack 3600 at the moment with 5800x3d and Asrick Taichi x570 board. What would be the recommended upgrade? I was thinking of 4000 Ram, or would I be best to stick with 3600?
I am on 8pack 3600 cl14 ripped edition and added another 16gb yesterday. I am currently running at xmp rock solid at xmp speed. I spent a few hours trying faster speed and went up to 4000 cl18 but found the 3600 to still be faster while benchmarking so I am now leaving it at 3600 cl14. This ram is brilliant stuff.
