Okay the misis has a Samsung P28 lappy and the HD has gone nuts. I was away at time but i got a mate (owns a pc shop) to pull the HD and copy doc's directly off it so she is lucky, she at uni and would be hanging her self no doubt if lost. She does have a back up external HD i made for her which does get used. Her fokes got it fixed where she bought it from and charged her £72 for a new HD#!!

HD that died as shop says is a Samsung MP0402H/SCC

Now i just ran it off my USB thingy and it seams okay but how can i test it to make sure it's okay??

I've asked the misis what happened so here goes

EM - missing you baby says:
i was working on it, and it froze up, and nothing wod happen, i left it to see if it wod unfreeze, and int he end had to press the power button to swtich laptop off, left it for a few mins and then when i turned the laptop on again it came up with the option to start up in safe mode, normal or the other option which i cant remember what it said

EM - missing you baby says:
i treid starting it normally, and it kept coming back to the same option scree, satrt in safe mode, normal or the other, and kept selecting normal mode, after about 10 atempts of starting it that wasy i selcted safe mode, and still nothing happened

Pete - Missing you princess says:
What did the shop say happened to the HD?

EM - missing you baby says:
they said it had a virus on it and that it was damaged

EM - missing you baby says:
and that i wod need to buy a new one

I have a spear P28 here as it goes with no HD so i have even tried it in here after the USB test. I ran AGV virus scan nothing showed, ran nod 32 nothing again! So defo virus fee and her doc are on there. lee (my mate at the shop) did not find any virus when he 1st looked at it to copy her docs.

I've got it in this P28, just about runinng the p28 and windows on there, seams fine. Just done some bench marks. Now i have it back on my lappy via usb2 and wana run some HD test but duno what.

Sorry if this post goes all over the shot

mate, go to Western Digital's website and download the Western Digital Lifeguard Tools.

it'll do a test and repair bad sectors.

If there's warranty, you can send it back for RMA.

I think it's the Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows you need, not the Lifeguard Tools that are for installing/copying drives etc.

Ops.....what now?

Samsung UK's HDD & ODD warranty service is handled by:

http://www.rexo.co.uk/

(Very helpful people on the phone too)

They have a serial number checker on there, if you don't want to create an an account post the serial here and I'll run it through for you.
They carry a 39 Month warranty for HDD's - wierd I know, but I wouldn't complain! ;)

You can check to see if your drive is currently under warranty by entering its serial number below.

You're in warranty still - if you ring Samsung you'll just get transferred to Rexo. Sign up and get the RMA sorted :)
