DEAL OF THE CENTURY - Sapphire X1800 XT @ £145 !!!

Just been reading some reviews. I didn't think these were faster than a 7800GTX!

Argh! I'm already into my overdraft :-(

I have a dell 24" TFT. Do you think this card will allow me to play games like COD2 and GTR2 at native res?

Yes its got enough power to do that, but an X1900 would be quicker. ;)

Yup x1800 XT's are indeed faster than the 7800 GTX's (256mb).

Also may be near, or on par with the 512mb GTX's now after the driver updates we've had.

once again sorry for going OT

Might be wrong here, but will the new release of the catalyst drivers enable crossfire without the need for a master card?

If so, do you think I should buy two of these?

the 256mb XT is faster than the 512mb at resolutions 1024x768 and below, 1280x1024 and above is where the gap starts to open up, and the higher you go the bigger the gap, think the 512mb is about 5fps faster at 1280x1024, then it grows from there the higher you go as said, but still they are stonking cards and will give cracking frame-rates. :)

How much of an improvement would this be over a 7800GT at 1280x1024 res? Are we just talking a few more frames per second or is it more than that? What difference would it make to oblivion for example?

Be a huge difference in Oblivion, ATi cards are the ones to have for that game as you can use HDR+AA at the same time which you can't on Nvidia cards, and it also performs better on ATi cards anyway, at 1280x1024 it will be an improvement over the GT, but by how much im not sure. :)

You should see a boost with the X1800XT, but it won't be earth shaking. I was running Oblivion with a 7800gt and I've since upgraded to a 7900gt. My 7900gt is running a fair bit quicker than pretty much any X1800XT and I am basically playing a few frames faster than I was, but at 1600x1200 instead of 1280x1024. I think with the X1800XT256 you should be able to manage HDR and 2xAA at 1280x1024 (or X4AA + HDR at 1024x768) with a slightly tweak ini file, assuming the rest of your specs are up to it too.

Hi,

I updgraded from a 7800GT to a 512MB X1800XT last week and to be honest im very impressed. Oblivion is like a different game when running the same settings as my GT its noticeably quicker but i can up the image qaulity way above anything my 7800GT could manage and still keep the framerate my GT used to manage!

Cheers,
Hugest

Oblivion is also very ATi-biased, particularly in outdoor environments. That fact, coupled with HDR+AA, is the reason I bought ATi this time round.

Does 4xAA+HDR @ 1280x960 with full detail settings just fine and 4xAA+HDR @ 1600x1200 too if I turn shadows off (NPC shadows that is, tree canopy shadows stay on.) ;)
