DEAL OF THE CENTURY - Sapphire X1800 XT @ £145 !!!

This card will max those games easy at 1280x1024. With eye candy on ;)
This price is amazing tbh. Just over two years ago I paid £169 for a 9800SE AIW from OCUK!

I want at least 1600x1200. To be honest I really want to run in native res which is 1920x1200

I got this card a few weeks ago and I'm well impressed. Only using CCC to oc it but it max's that out easily (690/800). If you play at 1280x1024 or less you won't be dissapointed and for the price won't find a better card.

question: when you use CCC to o/c your card, does the actual clock speed (the figure next to the bottom of the slider) actually change or just the requested speed (figure at the top). I find that the actual speed figure never seems to alter and wondered if it only kicks in when running 3D as the tick box that says something about apply to 3D only is ticked and greyed out. The new ATI tray tools app (used this for o/c'ing my X850) now seems to report the clock speeds correctly on the X1800 but says that overclocking is disabled.

In the CCC the requested speeds only work in 3d mode, ie games. When in desktop it reverts back to 2d stock speeds. Not too sure about tray tools, I also used it to clock my x850 but it doesn't like x1x00 cards that much so I'm sticking with the CCC as thats quick enough.(for now :D)

I'm in a bit of a fix here...

Do I buy the X1800XT now in the knowledge I won't be able to even try it out before I get my new PC in June/July, or do I wait and see what the deals are at the time?

I can get it at a reduced price due to the whole b-grade situation.

From what i've learnt buying parts slowly before you upgrade is generally quite bad as the prices will drop. But being honest, this is a great price for the card and is a lot cheaper than i've seen anywhere else :)

Yeah, that's what makes it so hard to decide...I want to buy everything together but this does look a lot of performance for not a lot of money...

Any idea how well are these likely to hold their value if I decided to buy and then maybe sell in 2 months if there's anything better?

It all depends on what the price is like on shops around the internet. If the prices DO drop again then you'll be looking at paying maybe less than you payed when you bought. It's a risk buying, but it's probably worth it ;)

In a word no IMO.

Two months is a longtime in pc hardware terms and you will probably see big drops on the 7900 sries cards by then.

I wouldn't buy a card now and not be able to use it for 2 months.
Thats maddness, In two months time they will be even cheaper.
