Dear mr motorcyclist

Me too, even glance at the drivers through their mirrors if I can, the old If I can see you then you can bloody see me :p

Didn't help avoid my accident, I looked the driver straight into her face twice, and she still rammed me from behind... Ok that sounds bad :D, but I guess the "her" is a dead give away why ¬_¬.

I was sat in traffic behind a car once that had it's window punched in by a biker with a chain wrapped around his hand. The only reason I could see why the biker did this was because the car was quite close to the white line, not giving the biker his space.

I think rage gets everyone... when it gets a biker obviously they can lash out, where as car drivers either just sit there and 'FFFFFUUUUUUU' or use car as weapon (which happens a lot)

dont get me wrong, if someone deservs it i.e. they see you in the mirrors ( yes you can see them do it ) and moves over to block you on purpose then they deserve there wing mirror re - moddeling ( yes i have done it several times ) BUT at the same time if the car driver has no other options i.e. turning right as the OP was then te bikes in the wrong.. not that it makes any difference, if hes going to do that to you he's probably allready worked out he can filter through the traffic ahead and leave you sitting there like a lemon... unfortunatly bikers also come in good and bad like car drivers and shouldnt be on the road... but the bottom line is youve now got to foot the bill for a new mirror.

Dear Mr driver, please stop when you hit and damage parked cars so that I dont have to take the time to note your reg, go back and leave a note with my phone number on the abused car.

Yes, bumholes exist and they use a multitude of different vehicles for transport.

I guess partly my fault - I was tring to turn right, and he was trying to filter past the oncoming traffic, as soon as I saw him coming I stopped, but I hadn't given him enough room to get past, so he stops next to me and punches my mirror off. Ah well - only the glass needs replacing.

Probably startled him or thought you were going to dive across him etc... eitherway doesn't really sounds like a fair response (then again wilfull damage never is IMO). A bit of a nasty thing to do I have to say. Please remember though that although this may be his fault in this case, bikers aren't all like that, and playing "bullies" with a car vs bike will end up with it going OTT and the biker ending up broken or dead - I'm not saying that of you, I'm just itterating a point publically. :)

the biker ending up broken or dead

Yep, pretty much why I don't take risks, if the gap looks too thin, il just wait until its large enough for me to pass. After all, if I was in the car, I would have been stuck a few miles back, so already I am better off, what is a couple more minutes.

then again, I have yet to have anyone dilliberately close the gap for me.

Yeah I take it easy as well. I've had no one behaving like a complete tool, but I have had a few car drivers purposefully not giving me room however they didn't close the gap, and some that try and out pace you from the lights or pulling onto a motorway etc... :/

To the OP, if it happened the way you describe then the motorcyclist is indeed a complete tool.

I have absolutely no time whatsoever for bikers who act like that in a similar situation. All they do is give the rest of us a bad name.

As already mentioned, pity you didn't get the idiots registration.

You can however, always take solace and comfort in the way karma often works. ;)

I agree with Draeger. You were turning right so you're bound to position yourself near to the centre of the road to allow traffic to pass up your inside (if it'll fit) As long as you didnt cross the line in the centre of the road the biker had no right to thump your mirror off.

I road bikes for 9 years and would never argue with anything that was heading towards me! Owning a bike doesnt automatically mean people 'have' to move out of the way for you. Some riders do assume this however.

He should also have not been overtaking / filtering on a junction in the first place.

There are some start plebs out there!!

De ja vu!
There was a thread exactly the same about this a while ago.....around the same time there was another thread started by a motorcyclist talking about some d***head driver who hadn't let him filter through and given him some abuse.....needless to say the motorcyclist punched his wing mirror off ;)

*edit* OMG that thread by a motorcyclist exists!

Biker in the OP’s story sounds like a nut job tbh; I’ve always reminded myself that when I’m filtering, to be especially vigilant and that if something does arise, I’m in a bit of a grey area as I took it on myself to filter. If it were me in his place, I would have simply stopped, let you cross, then continue.

I had a close call leaving work once, I was filtering past the massive queue out of the industrial estate, doing about 10-15 mph, slipping the clutch and the rear brake, a guy in the queue must have flashed someone to come out from one of the side roads and the woman literally pulled out in front of me. As much as I was swearing at her in my helmet, I still appreciated that something like that could have happened as I was filtering, but even so, I rode past and she was totally oblivious I was even there.
