Death Stranding

The first trailer for DS2 was released the other day. Will be interesting to see where they go with the story now. Fragile and Sam are still in it from looks of it.

I thought that balancing thing was annoying, but accurate, so was quite impressed at the same time at that level of detail :p The way he stumbles around is really realistic too I thought though.

How the heck to I escape the cremation building though, keep getting eaten :o

I ended up just running for it and fell off the cliff. It should be possible to sneak though.

EDIT: By the way, Death Stranding was one of the titles I noticed ABL on the Alienware OLED in HDR1000. I ended up settling with the 400. Have you experimented between the two?

Not noticed it but I am at 144Hz 10 bit not 175Hz, I've only noticed ABL when at 175Hz so far in games! I do like this game without HDR to though, both look good, maybe the non HDR presentation feels more natural too.

Using XeSS results in a random DX12 crash to desktop, very strange, now using FSR2 instead and no crashes with that. DLSS also no crashes. Seems XeSS is unstable, as well, FSR2 is good.

worst thing about the game was not being able to kill the AI in camps

You can totally kill the bandit camps... It's a really good way to score a 4x4 vehicle early game? Good for loading road building materials on..

They re-spawn after a while though IIRC

So there's no point raiding the bandit camps later in the game other than to loot thier materials if you need more building materials etc..

Gave this a go last year but put it down after an hour, thinking of trying again this Christmas, hopefully i can get further in the game and "get it".

Without too many hardcore spoilers. Does anyone know when the "online" aspect of the game kicks in? I'm on mission 3 and I've not seen any ladders/roads/ropes etc or any indication of anyone ever being in "my" world at all.
Does it unlock after a certain mission? Ive enabled online sessions in game.

Yeah it should be online by default (check pause menu) I cant remember which mission it kicks in but you'll see a ton of stuff once it does - helps a lot when someone has built a bridge etc you need

I've also been playing this the last few days after picking it up free on Epic. Enjoying it so far, looks and runs great.
Gameplay seems a bit repetitive to start with, go here, do that, go here but then that's basically most games tbf but it's keeping it interesting so far by drip feeding new things at a steady place and really seems to open up once you leave the starting area.
Story has me interested and is pulling me along, even if there are a few odd holes, because 'video game'.

One question though...

Is it worth while playing it logged in? Or am I missing out on anything major by not doing so?
I've watched a few vids of other people playing it from before the point I've already got to in game and it just seems to make the map and the landscape a mess of icons.
And seems to make the game too easy?

I know I'm missing out on some easy stat boosts but I don't feel like I'm having any issues levelling up or getting through the game.

Is there anything major game play or story wise I'm going to miss out on?
No specific spoilers please, just a general sense of how people here played it and "online? yes or no".
ta.

You’re missing out on a huge chunk of the experience if not logged in. Nothing story wise though.

I’m hooked again, although on PS5 this time around.

As soon as you hook up the first distribution centre that reveals a portion of the map, you’re online.

Hmmm, I'll probs just keep it off then.

Maybe I'm missing something but the 'experience' just seems to be loads of silly icons everywhere spoiling the map and game with signs pointing 'go this way' and 'warning, bad guys here' etc and they're the 'helpful' ones.
Though I will admit I'm an unsociable grumpy sod irl, let alone in a single player game where I just want to have an adventure and explore the game and it's environment. :D

the biggest benefits of being online:

Always a stash of motorbikes and boots, equipment etc in the distribution center lockers, so you can dump you lower level gear for newer players and grab better ones.
Handily placed ladders and ropes out in the wild that other people leave
And possibly the most usefull, when you're building a road, and you'll want to build at least a few to make traversing the map less painful, other player might leave building materials in the road building beacons... it's a bit of a grind to collect all the materials yourself, and it becomes a team effort, even though you'll never see another player.
Sometimes a handy bridge will appear too.
Best way to collect road building materials is to get a car/4x4 (steal one from a bandit camp if you need too) and raid bandit camps for thier building materials... the 4x4 vehicles can carry a big stash of looted items in the trunk, so you're not hauling it around on your back which would take forever.

The online aspect isn't 'multiplayer' at all, in the traditional sense, just that you benefit from other players efforts, and they, yours.

Yeah, see none of that sounds like fun to me tbh. :D

It just seems like people putting up garish neon signs on a beautifully muted landscape to point out things that ruin the surprise, coupled with the shoe makers elves.
Feels like spending all day thinking about jumping on minecraft to go mine for diamonds and then you log in to find someone left a double chest full of them in your base.

Maybe I'll hit a point where resources become an issue but I've not hit that point yet, even after building a few roads. Maybe if the game starts to drag and I want to speed through it the things you mention might help.
But tbh at the moment I'm enjoying the game and don't like the sound of having half of it done for me. Checking the map, planning your route, working out what items might be needed to traverse the terrain seems half the fun to me.

I pretty much maxed out the first area, though do want to pop back and top off a couple that aren't quite five stars and see if I missed any secrets/unlocks, so may give it a go in that area and see if other players utility placement helps enough to make it worth while.

It's an interesting idea and I like the way it's trying to tie into the whole 'like' thing, the back story etc in a lot of the logs you find, just don't think it's for me and don't feel I'm missing out on much.
My main worry was things like my lop sided stats progression and being locked out of anything story or major gameplay related.
