Death Stranding

Somehow I’m hooked on this for a second time. Enjoying all the directors cut changes.

Managed to grab a mule truck early by pure luck. Made some earlier stuff a bit easier.

Quite a few roads have appeared on this playthrough too. Had to do a load myself last time.

Onto the weather station now.

I've played a couple of hours so far.

Hating it so far. The main story is OK, but the walking about is boring, tedious and frustrating.

Also the UI menu is terrible.

I've stop playing and will move on to a different game. Haven't uninstalled it yet as I might give it another go once I finish the next game.

But so far its pretty poor.

Glad I didn't buy this.

I always remembered competing the game at 2 am and then going through endless cutscenes at the end. I think it was about 4am by the time I was done. Classic Kojima

it's not call of duty.. that much is clear, heheh, you're missing out on a great experience... the first map is kinda like a tutorial before you get to the big map.

Get a motorbike then :D

just started playing this. I use a 4K monitor, holy **** does it look good, one of the best graphics to date that I have seen!

Only played for 30 mins but, so far so good!

Just started this, and tbh my first impression isn't good.

First, the Kojima insanity is off the charts. I wasn't expecting as much silliness right from the bat.

Second, in the first hour I've controlled the character once, for about 5 minutes. That's got to be a record even for Kojima.

The writing seems pretty terrible too. "America still has a President? What for? Let it all burn." "You don't want to turn down the opportunity to meet the President, do you?" Some time later... "Don't you remember? She's the first female President - and she's your mother, Sam!" Like, literally, WTF? How can you even begin to make sense of this...

So anyhow, does this game get better? Right now I'm just stunned by how silly it is and not sure I can bring myself to give it a chance. (And yeah, I played all the MGS games. They got progressively worse, imho. Think the crackpipe was taking its toll in the end.)

It gets much better once you leave the starting area and the cutscenes chill out a bit in the mid game, but it’s still marmite. I loved it personally.

Am I wrong in thinking that other players are completing objectives in my game?

It seems it's not entirely a single-player game. I'm fairly sure other players are eliminating threats in my game and clearing whole areas of enemies. A bit weird when I was expecting a single-player experience!

No, they can’t complete objectives for you, but they can place items/structures in the world that are shared with you. Some of these items are really really useful, especially at key times in the story. Without spoiling it, there was one moment where I was completely stranded and someone had left a bike, saving me a good hours walk.

You certain? Last night I was surrounded by the enemies and all of a sudden they just died and the "all clear" music played. I turned round and there was a giant player robot standing next to me, called "EasyRider AI" or something very similar. Bizarrely it was grinning like a Chesire cat.. kind of killed the mood instantly :p

That's a new one on me, lol!

There's a multiplayer aspect in that when players leave equipment and vehicles dotted about, that can appear in your game so you can use them, and vice versa, and in the 'hubs' theres usueally a healthy stash of motorbikes and 4x4 cars you can just use, and tools in the lockers.

Also can contribute to building roads and stuff, which is great, as collecting enough materials do build a decent road network takes a long time, even with the helpof using the boot space weight allowance on a 4x4 vehicle.

You can also put warning signs on the map too, for other players, and arrows pointing to easier places to climb cliffs etc. and vica-versa and other helpfull little things.

I don't know how it works, but when I put a serious effort into road building for example, I'd find sometimes that the road would have been completed or the materials stash topped up quite significantly next time I played.

I get the impression the more you 'contribute' the more stuff you can see on your map/instance too, from other players.

Theres no direct interaction between players though...

No. it doesn't. It's the one of the worst games that I have ever played. And I put hours and hours into it waiting for it to become better. The story is silly, the jobs are silly. The whole game is one mind numbingly boring way to spend your time.

And I wonder how long it will take you to get completely fed up with the cutscenes while making a delivery.

Well I've already stopped caring about the lost cargo and just doing the main "missions", if you could call them that.

I'll give it a while longer, as I really have only scratched the surface of the plot, I think.

Also, the amount of building spam from other players detracts from the game, I feel. You can't take a step in any direction without a marker/sign that another player has left. And they all make random silly noises when you pass them. In fact, everything makes a stupid infantile noise when you pass it. Bleddy Kojima :p

I really don't understand why you would spend years building a single player game only to let the players take virtual dumps everywhere - and for those to feature in every solo player's game. So odd.

I thought it' was a fantasic game.. but I can appreciate so people just won't 'get it'.

Can you play in offline mode or block it on windows firewall? you'd be missing out on a large part of teh game dynamic though, although I do agree the little lollipop things all over the roads/entrances to buildings are a bit of an annoyance... they don't seem to serve much purpose.

It's a strange one that's for sure. I didn't think the story was really that crazy. The gameplay was nothing special, but overall I found it enjoyable and it seemed to end at about just the right time for me.
A good book will always have better writing and big budget games tend to have quite stale plot and gameplay. This was an interesting diversion for me.
