Death

When thinking about this doesn't it make you wonder how we're even alive in the first place?

Is this all there is? You're born (seemingly randomly), live for a few years and then die. Game over. That's it? Unless there's some form of afterlife, which is a whole new ballgame in itself.

And large parts of society seemingly are willingly ignorant about this or actually ignorant about it. We should be focused on finding more answers rather than focusing on greed.

You won't care when you're gone, so why worry about it.

Because being alive is kinda interesting, even if there is a lot of suffering. Not existing for infinity seems... rather crazy? Even though I guess technically it's already been like that before.

Mindboggling...

I don’t think there are any answers. We just have a higher level of self awareness and intelligence than any other life form on the planet (obviously) so we can ponder these questions. But there probably isn’t any answer. Why should there be?

Probably around 100 billion people have lived and died, and that’s just that. Like everything else on the planet, we live then we die. I don’t think there are any answers to it, there is no deeper meaning.

More a philosophical topic I guess.

There's simply no way to answer the question of life after death, someone would have to die, be able to record evidence of what's there, then come back. Which is impossible as you probably already know, or should know :p

The circle of life and nature's balancing act on everything in the universe is proof of the fact that something is born, it lives for a period of time, it dies and returns to the very dust it was born from. This applies to stars in space, right down to atoms and other particles.

Yeah, I guess. I mean answers also around science, and space and time. Imagine if we were a species focused on doing good and really focused on space travel/living on another place for example, rather than a species based on greed.

Yeah, without death there would be no life, well, not as we know it.

Back to the previous post about searching for answers. What was before the big bang?

After we all die what's to stop another big bang from happening at some point in the future and it starts again in another dimension/time line? If that happened for infinity why is this the only one that were conscious of.

We simply don't know enough to be able to answer much at all. Hence why it would be great if humans weren't such fools, although we are still a young species, hopefully we'll last to find out more.

How often do you think about it? I'm 38 and think about it every other day I would say, worry about how it will happen, how you are just gone forever, and how i wont be here to help my kids if they need me.

I don't because I'm more concerned about living than dying.

The acknowledgement of death can also be liberating, when you think about it; very few things, if any, actually matter.

You can do both, clearly.

I think being caught up in "living" can be obscuring/limiting. Most people are too busy playing the game.

No point worrying about something you have zero control over.

Death cames to us all, so live the best you can. It's a blessing and a privilege.

Mum died at 62, dad died at 42. I wonder if I'll make it past the average so I'm doing everything in my power to retire early.

The thing I think about most is having a quick way out if I get something that's going to be protracted and bleak. Bottle of nitrogen should do the job.

It's probably easier to just not think about it if it adds confusion really :D

Our universe is expanding faster than the speed of light, what is it expanding into? Nobody knows or will ever know because the light from that sort of distance will never reach us, ever. We also won't ever be able to travel to those far reaches of the universe because of the rate of expansion, so even if we evolve into a technological species that has mastered wormhole travel around the universe, you can't plot the opening co-ordinates of a wormhole to an area of space that is expanding faster than the speed of light to then be able to go there if that makes sense - Actually it doesn't make sense, nothing makes any sense when thinking about space/universe :p

Our universe may also be part of multiple other universes all with different physics and stuff. If the space the universe is expanding into is infinite, then it's feasible that there are also an infinite number of universes, and maybe from time to time some of those collide, creating new universes (such as the big bang). At the quantum level we know that two particles can share the exact same state regardless of the distance between them, so it's clear that somehow, time/space/universe doesn't matter because an underlying fabric of everything connects everything instantaneously that sits somewhere outside of all matter. It boggles the mind and it's easier to just imagine we live in a simulation lol than to try to even comprehend the magic of nature.

I'm late 40s. I was diagnosed in my late 30s with a pre-cancerous condition. The GP said "take these meds. We won't know the side effect for 10 years but that'll be too late for you ha ha".
Totally ruined my mental health and gave me a crippling preoccupation with death.

If I were you I would speak to someone. Its never too late to get help with mental health, it sounds like you're living with a terminal diagnosis when you haven't actually been given one. I'm sure the doctor was trying to put you at ease with humour and ballsed it up badly.

*picks up bong*

Yeah, man.

I worked with a guy that everyday would say "Not long now"

Turns out there is a history in his family of sudden death in their mid 50's and he had not long turned 50 :(

He was cool about it.

Death?

We fall asleep and don’t wake up…but Do we really disappear completely?

As my kids and grand children have my genes in them my presence might be gone but my DNA and ways of thinking and certain mirror looks remain.

Death is what you make of it..I remain convinced we don’t completely leave this earth without leaving a calling card behind in our children . With that in mind I will go to my eternal rest with a peace in mind That outweighs any fear
