Debadging

I de-badged my other cars because I liked the clean look.

I down-badged the 420 for a bit of a laugh, but when it goes back on the road later this year it'll be getting de-badged with one of these in the bottom left corner of the number plate plinth...

something like a debadged 335 would be hilarious. people really would be left wondering WTF

Aside from the unique 2 tailpipes giving the game away? :p

Might take the renaultsport badge off the back of my car, has a couple of tar spots in the lettering that are impossible to get rid of

i wouldnt know the exhaust pipe layout on a 335 and im pretty into cars, the rest of the world will just see it as another 3 series and wonder whether theyve left their handbrake on or stalled as "some 3 series" rockets off over the horizon

Sure sure.

The "rest of the world" will see a big BMW that looks fast and powerful and will love looking at it regardless.

A 335i is pretty damn obvious from the big 3" twin pipes to the loud big engine noises coming from the bonnet.

Also, in my opinion, it doesn't just look like another 3 series. I think people know it's something quite fast.

I did think that BMW had made the M3 de-badge proof with the additional vents and add on tat?

What i'm trying to say is why would you cover up the fact it's a 330? It's not a particularly special car in any way so why would it attract attention?

The point is, that given 2 cars which look identical that are badged, the prospective thief would be more likely drawn to the one which had the 330 badge , rather than the one with the 318 badge. Yes? :)

Picking up a little on what AGW_01 said - does anyone else "downbadge" cars?

i.e. stick a 316i badge on a 330i, just for the laugh factor with da corsa crew? :p

E46 cars (and the others I guess) aren't really easy to steal though really - well unless they can trigger via the fob somehow since once locked the doors won't open from the inside either.

when we lived in eastern europe in the 90s my dad pried all the Turbo badges off our 9000 for this very reason.
looked a bit crap afterwards :p

although i still have the bage somewhere..

No they wouldnt because:

a) Anyone who knows enough to care would spot the two exhuasts either side
b) Everyone else would assume it was yet another diesel and ignore it therefore not even give it the opportunity to embarrass them, let alone race it, or simply not even notice.

Some of the comments people make about stealth are hilarious. Do you really think people go around checking out your badge to decide whether to challenge you to a traffic light GP?

If you get chavs trying to race you its because of how the car looks overall not because of what the badge says.

Any prospective theif of a modern BMW (infact a modern anything) would need to do a theft of the car with keys - it'll be stolen following a break in probably. So unless you park right next to your next door neighbours 318i it probably makes no difference at all.
