Decent game controller?

There is a satisfying noise when you release an analogue stick from maximum distance.
A bit like one of those springy door things.

If my very quick search source was right, it appears the defender is exactly the same weight as an Xbox elite 2 controller at 345 G.

Yeah the heft is actually quite comfortable I find

What's the optimal way to connect these wirelessly? I just used the supplied dongle thing (2.4ghz?) but like what's that giving me because the leaflet tells you just to pair it with BT 5.0.

I wonder if I can connect the SMX to the same dongle if that is the case.

The dongles are specific to each controller so that won't work. The dongle is 2.4GHz at 1000Hz, same as wired mode. Bluetooth is a lot slower at 125Hz so obviously don't bother wityh bluetooth. Make sure the toggle switch on the controller is set to S mode to make use of the full 1000Hz.

Ah ok I'll stick with it.

Got a couple of quality concerns, two are definite, one is hard for me to prove.

When I rotate the left stick there is a metallic pinging noise. It doesn't happen if I remove the faceplate. It is very audible.

The right stick has what feels like a bump when moving it to 3 o'clock only.

The one I'm not 100% about is it feels like the left trigger is shorter than the right.

Hoping the first two disappear with use. If I switch it to s mode it just flashes red.

Edit. Paired in S mode ok.

Ffs now LB doesn't seem to be working, though can't say for sure it ever did. On test input on Steam it shows that button is constantly pressed but that makes no sense as it would be constantly tabbing on other screens if so.

The only way LB registers as being pressed is if I press the 'T' button. Once I turn it off lb is totally unresponsive.
Same in Bluetooth, only difference there is that steam is recognising it as an Xbox series s controller and on the dongle a Xbox 360 controller.

It sounds like you've accidentally activated turbo mode for the button, or it came with turbo enabled by default. In the manual there are instructions on how to disable turbo mode, or just reset the whole controller by

How to reset to the factory mode: When the controller is powered off, press and hold the Screenshot button and the HOME button simultaneously for 5 seconds to restore the factory default settings. LED3-6 will flash quickly in pink (PB's signature color) at 80% brightness for 6 times (1 second), and then the controller will automatically power off.
On the sticks issue, don't have the myself, though these are hand finished so I suspect maybe some variation between each build or something perhaps.

Yes, I tried holding turbo and press L3 which is supposed to clear any turbo bind settings. I tried the factory reset but left button just does not register. I suppose the last thing to do is try it plugged in.
Only other bit of info I can give is that at some point steam popped up a message about going to Microsoft advanced settings because there is more than one controller registered. Not seen it for a while.

I'm surprised it still remembers the pairing after a factory reset.

Hmmm weird. LB is showing black on that as if pressed, this is really weird.

Annoyingly I have absolutely no idea if lb actually ever worked because the game I played first to test it, I didn't use it.

Yep again if I press T it starts flashing like I'm pressing it rapidly.
I am however still able to assign a different button to the turbo thingy.

On a plus the right stick is hitting 100% before I fill that nobble so it's not like I have to get over the bump to reach 100%.

£20 Easy Smx doing fine :p

Yeah for the price the SMX is unbeatable even still, though there are £30-£40 TMR stick controllers now coming onto the scene so things are getting interesting.

If that button issue is still a thing then email PB tails as they are quite responsive and will no doubt sort it out.

Besides the tech spec and also the cool look of the Crush Defender, I am interested in the metal sticks. I missed out on the chance to get this 8-bitdo when it was released.

I've had both, the non Lite is geared specifically for Switch as ABXY are mapped for Nintendo layout, and no analogue as Switch doesn't have Analogue. Forget the Lite, get the EasySMX X05 instead as it's just better all round.

Any idea how bulky the X05 is compared to an original Steam Controller?

I bought a Steam Controller years ago for my better half, but she found it too bulky and ditched it.
