Declining attitude to law and order

Must serve 2/3rds of their sentences too. Brutal sentencing for a brutal crime. Basically spend their 20s in prison. Stupid stupid stupid kids.

It's my understanding that the reason these lads didn't go down for murder is because they denied knowing that PC Harper was being dragged behind the car when they made off, and there was no evidence to prove otherwise.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if one of them spills the beans when inside and they land back in court on a murder charge.

Simple test. Strap a bag of equivalent weight to the back of the same car with a rope and test with and without on the same stretch of road. All the jurors get a go (I know its too late now nor would it ever occur).

The idea that you wouldn't notice is insanity.

The prosecution never stood a change of proving is was murder so manslaughter was always going to be the absolute best they could hope for. I'd say all 3 scumbags will be out within 2/3rds of their total sentence being served, none will have changed their ways or improved themselves whilst inside and all will return to the world still being scumbags on release.

I'm not sure how this particular bit worked in their case for Consecutive vs Concurrent (which did they get?), but as they committed several crimes during the chase, can't they also be charged for each of those crimes and the totals for each crime be added together onto the manslaughter sentence for a consecutive sentence rather than a concurrent one? So for example 12 years for manslaughter + 3 years for dangerous driving + 6 months for failing to stop + etc etc = 18 year sentence total.

12 and 9 years until this filth are back on the street and straight back into their criminal lifestyle then.
Until they are eligable for parole to be even considered.

Unless their attitudes and behaviour change enough to convince the parole board they're sorry and not going to immediately reoffend they're probably going to stay inside for longer than that.

Remember a Judges recommendation for possible release, is just that, a possible release - you still have to convince the parol/probation service etc that you're not a danger, and good luck with that if you've killed a police officer during your crimes.

Dunno, wasn't there someone who killed a child and was finally let out without him telling whereabouts he buried the kid? Parole board said be wasn't a danger anymore.

To me that shows he wasn't mentally right or just pure evil ,if they can let that slip then anything can.

Also they released that serial rapist, who then went on the rampage..

Justice in this country does not happen,I feel for the victims and the police who see their hard work undone by the 'justice' system.

They'll wear killing a policeman like a badge of honour, and will still be laughing on the day they get out.

He could have gave the scum life.

"The maximum sentence a judge can impose for manslaughter is imprisonment for life."

Can't just hand out maximum sentences for the sake of it. The guidelines don't exist for some and not others, I imagine it would draw criticism about the legitimacy of the process if they just ignored it, which may affect other cases (though i'm not a lawyer, so I don't know about the answer to that). I don't want to appear like an apologist with regard to these criminals, but as far as i'm concerned this is a matter for legislature.

Sorry but they was found guilty of manslaughter.
And should have got the sentence.

But I'm glad Boris is looking to retry them.

"legislature" You do know who that is in the UK?

I don't really care who it is, merely that it's their purview as elected officials and have a responsibility to act if they feel the justice system is malfunctioning. Not that it will ever satisfy anyone, there'll always be folks asking for more, inventing more crimes to sentence, longer sentences, harsher punishments, torture and the kill-em-all types.
