Define Posh

lol.. So true.

jack wills is ultimate fail.

I've even got a posh friend that is into fashion that tell me how **** jack wills is.

jack wills attracts poor people who want to think they are rich and rich people who have no taste a bit like how Lyle & Scott have become.

Neither are 'cool' and I pitty the people who waste their money on being associated to them.

I'd never even heard of Jack Wills until Christmas Day when a family member (in her 1st year at uni) mistook my shirt for a Jack Wills one. I was a bit  and wasn't sure whether to take it as a complement or not tbh!

w/e - I really don't care how 'fail' you think it is. Their polo shirts are reasonably priced and very comfortable. But the fact is, no other brand gets attentions of student girls in a night club like Jack Wills. They are just drawn to it.

You're really quite bitter if you think that girls who like Jack Wills don't have a brain.

Non-students who wear Jack are totally creepy - I'll throw out all my JW stuff when I graduate. But atm all I'm looking is casual liaisons with cute girls. No brain is really required....

Dunno about intelligence but girls who judge you by the precise label you wear (not even what you wear/ how you wear it) sound like the epitome of shallow and I wouldn't touch them with yours, but if you're having fun, and they're having fun carry on :) Not sure how to take the "non-students who wear brand X are creepy" comment though, seeing as I'm an ex-student and have a wardrobe full of RL/Tommy Hilfiger/Gant/ Paul Smith gear that looks pretty much identical to the Jack Wills stuff. It's hard enough as it is when you get to my age to dress half-decent without looking like a yah or a football casual ;)

Without wanting to get in to a "he said, she said" thing, there is no other Uni in Scotland where like attracts like in terms of the OP's initial target and the subsequent postings.

You can make of that what you will :)

You forgot about St Randy's! :)

I'd never heard of Jack Wills until just now and subsequent research allows me to say two things, 1) their website is rubbish and crashed when I clicked on a picture after finally navigating through far too many screens telling me there was a sodding sale on and 2) it doesn't look much different to any other generic label style of clothing to my untrained eye.

If you're going to sleep with girls (or perhaps more to the point they're going to sleep with you) just because you're wearing Jack Wills (or a Musto belt was it?) then fair play, it sounds a bit odd to me to pick someone just for what they are wearing but it isn't me doing the choosing so it's not my problem. I suspect that any girls who choose solely on the basis of what you wear wouldn't consider me anyway so you're not exactly harming my chances any. :)

Hmm, probably because we were both on it simultaneously and brought their artfully-faded server down ;)

I actually found a cracking thread on b3ta in the same google search:

Many of the definitions that you have given are of the 'nouveau riche'

Public school doesn't equal posh. If it's my definition your school has to be one of the elite ones to qualify as you find a lot of commoners in the minor public school ranks.

The car factor... come on that's just showing money and not class. Again depending car but a Range Rover for my mind = wannabe posh.

University: Oxbridge is full of commoners who, once there, decide that they are now qualified to be posh.

Accent: ever seen an actor? Any mug can put an accent on.

House/ Area: Again, footballers live in 'posh' areas but let's face it they're not posh at all.

Clothes: trends and fashions aren't indicative of class, just money.

You can be as rich as you like but money doesn't buy class. I enjoy laughing at wannabe Bristol Uni (best example I can come up with, please don't take offence if you go there mind.) 'posh boys' wearing Jack Wills and trendy haircuts. If that's posh then the world has gone insane.

Mmm, not 100% sure I agree with your there.

People who wear that gear typically embrace the 'preppy' student vibe from their school or 6th form. What you get is quite a large chunk of private school students who wear Jack Wills, whilst the majority of state school students would rather be dead than to wear such a thing.

So it does show a divide of some sort.

I totally agree about money and class though.

This sais it all.

and

I just looked at the website and now I want to kill something.

£29 for a plain tshirt with "JACK WILLS" in huge letters on the front. It may as well say "KUNT".

One of my friends did the MA Fine Arts and Art History there. Brilliant lass, very clever, thought she would fit right in. It turned out that pretty much everyone there was a pretentious ********. You know things are bad when the person you identify the most with is the crack addict from London who occasionally has her gang up to deal drugs with.

If laissez-faire reads the thread he will soon realise why nobody likes him..

Yes Nitefly, it shows a divide:

I have money, you don't.

Kind of think that you're hinting at the 'ideal' factor such as people dressing like their music taste.

I've met a whole load of plebs who went to minor public school and think that they are d-schiznit.

It is unfortunately something which is personality linked and not materially linked in my view. Thus for those unfortunates who like to think that they are posh are in fact no better than the dog poo i stepped in two hours ago.

One of my favourite past times is mocking these idiots to their face without them realising whats going on. I hate people pretending to be something that they are certainly not.

Even things such as being well mannered and well spoken arent necessarily indicative of class as I embarrasingly discovered with a good friend who reeked of class and establishment but was in fact just very very well brought up and who had an excellent attitude and general demeanour rather than a Range Rover and a good postcode.

Your name does you a dis-service.
edit : wait, is this a dreadful wind up?

You're only missing an "i" and an "e" from being someone worth listening to or reading ;-)

Although I admire your straight-forwardness in argument, I disagree on a lot of levels.

oh... i get it now :)

Depends on whether you think his name is a mis-spelling of "Voltaire" or "vulgar" I suppose. I'd class the boasting about money and about knocking people down a peg or two because they aren't as rich as you as the latter. As stated earlier, snobbery is not an attractive quality, no matter how rich you are. Plus it's always worth remembering that no matter how rich/ well-bred you are there is usually someone even richer and better bred than you are ;)
On the other hand aspiration is a good thing, as long as you don't turn into a right Richard in doing so that is :)
