Don't think I could manage mine on a spreadsheet any longer - we've got about 20 accounts (including ISAs, savings, credit cards etc).

Beauty of an app like money is that it has a built in payment calender, so you can enter all recurring payments and it deals with it for you.

That depends on how complex your finances are. :)
Well yeah. But given that he's asking about using a spreadsheet and not "What 82 different accountants do I need?" I'd say his finances are fairly simple :p

Indeed .... but it doesn't need to be that complex to start stressing the spreadsheet approach to the limits. Personally, I'd prefer the Quicken/MS Money approach ..... PROVIDING the user has the willpower to keep them regularly updated. If not, it's a complete waste of time.

mine are pretty complicated, but as long as you know amounts and/or interest rates, it's not hard. You get statements for pretty much everything so you can just amend payments as and when you need to.

It's not hard people :)

Excel spreadsheet with Date, Money In, Money Out, Total, Description.

I've used this for a lot of years now.

that's all it is.. It sums up the total balnce for the month and i can tie the balances back with the statements when they come in.. It's only as acurate as the data you put in.. like all the DD you have for the month etc..

Anyway, you should all have the spreadsheets in your inbox by now :)

As someone said above - WILLPOWER required.

ive kept track of almost 3 years of uni on an excel spreadsheet. obviously its not perfect and a couple of months have been missed when i just forgot about it but its easier than messing around using other programs.
I jsut used

Date(week), amount, on, cashcard, on debit card, on

then 2 seperate boxes for cash and change and a box at the bottom with all days of the week in, total at botton was wacked into date week above.

simple
