I'm undecided about Freeman as Bilbo. As long as he genuinely acts and doesn't bring "Martin Freeman" to the role (Scotty for instance in ST) he'll be great.
I did like his Scotty in ST mind, I just don't think it'll work for Bilbo, I am more than likely completely wrong though.

........erm........, Scotty was played by Simon Pegg

lol

I think Freeman will do a good job and the other actors named seem quite good too - main thing is that jackson (and not del torro) is directing it. Would be nice if they end up filming it in the uk...

Does anybody think the film might be badly affected by such a long and protracted build up having spent such a large amount of time in limbo. I hope not though I'm gutted Del Toro isn't involved anymore. I read the Hobbit as a kid and my main memories of it are it being TERRIFYING to a me as a young child. I'd hoped Del toro would be able to capture that creepiness.

Anyway Martin Freeman should be perfectly fine in the role. It's not like Bilbo Baggins is the most complex character in literature, he just needs to have the right amount of gentrified English charm which Freeman should be able to pull of fine.
