I was thinking it was just a quicker and cheaper way to 'win' the war, just arbitrarily declare one side the winner! :p

In all seriousness though, it just seems a cynically politicised way to release frozen libyan funds to the now 'official Libyan authority', so they don't have to use any more of our tax payers money to fund the rebels (for a while anyway)

What's wrong with officially supporting a coup? Worst case scenario is Libya ends up with another military dictatorship, so no different to old situation.

nothing apart from it was done under the guise of saving lives when in reality they are pro longing a civil war by a silly amount of time and if the rebels ever reach tripoli its going to be a slaughter , theres been loads of human rights watch groups saying some of the rebels are comiting some pretty awful acts such as rape and murder to people suspected of suporting gaddafi

Funny isn't it that there is not a peep about this on any mainstream western media, but then, they will always try and suppress military info that is hard to be spun and maybe shows things in a different light.

I lost the ability to believe we invade other countries "for humanitarian reasons" a long time ago. We always have our own non-altruistic reasons for going in and if lots of innocent people get killed in the process, well, we don't mean to and it's all for the greater good anyway

The only way I can sum up this "conflict" is your sig arknor

why u no
me gutsa
troll face
lol
excellent

Laughable

Sometimes I wonder why UK/USA didn't go all in, to keep oil arabs happy? but shows that without the help of western forces, middle eastern countries are stuck with the mess they created, they need help but once they get in power, then the west is just the enemy!

Maybe they're hoping millions of Libyans will finally take to the streets (due to thirst) and then they can finally say "look it's just like Egypt the people want him out" rather than only the paid mercenaries... err... I mean rebel forces.

Either that or western water companies want some action and the pipeline Gaddafi built for his people is a hinderance to their profits.

The biggest example of how the NATO forces are fighting on behalf of a single side in this civil war is in the air imo, we claimed the no fly zone was to protect civilians and when loyalist gunships violated it the French air force destroyed them with incredible speed, however when rebel gunships did the same thing the NATO forces did... nothing, it was down to the Libyan military to down the gunships. Kinda sums it up, we're protecting civilians, but only the ones we can say are threatened by the side we want to lose...

Yep funny I thought the West promoted freedom of speech.

Noam Chomsky said:
"If you believe in freedom of speech, you believe in freedom of speech for views you don't like. Stalin and Hitler, for example, were dictators in favor of freedom of speech for views they liked only. If you're in favor of freedom of speech, that means you're in favor of freedom of speech precisely for views you despise."

Well that's unexpected... This is nothing to do with civil right of the people, although there are a significant number of Libyans supporting it on both sides. It's a war that just so happens to be split down, for want of a better word, tribal influences. Its all about the eastern people wanting to get their person in power, if that happens those from Tripoli and the surrounding area will be persecuted...
